💧Water is vital for elephants. An adult 🐘 needs 150–200 litres daily—and it’s more than just drinking.

Bathing and swimming keep skin healthy and help muscles relax, easing pain from past injuries.

Here’s Erika and Lilly enjoying a refreshing pool session together. 🐘🌊 #sanctuarylife

Ginger spent six decades as a ‘begging’ elephant, her wounds hidden beneath paint, inflicted by a bullhook.

Today at Wildlife SOS, her bond with her caregiver reflects trust over trauma. While we can’t erase her past, we can give her what she always deserved: safety, compassion, and dignity.

Gracie, inherently shy and calm, lets herself explore the myriad of enrichments in her enclosure with excitement! The honey-laden ones are her favourite, and mistaking her platform’s stumps for the same is totally understandable when the reward for right guesses is sweet, sweet nectar.

Beneath the shade of a sprawling tree, Jasmine, Erika, and Lilly rest in perfect stillness. There is no urgency here, no noise, just the soft rhythm of breath, the rustle of leaves, and a kind of calm that asks for nothing, yet offers everything. (Wildlife SOS Elephant Rescue Center in Haryana)

Bani has one rule: if you want to say hello, you have to pay the banana tax. Sugarcane is sometimes accepted.😛

Otherwise… be ready to be chased.
Note: did you all notice how well she can walk now?

Chanchal spent her life carrying the weight of human entertainment, even as her own body was breaking down.

The plight of riding elephants in India is still overlooked, and the violation continues.

In loving memory of Ella. 🐘

Ella, the oldest, never needed to prove her place. There was a steadiness in her, she became someone the others looked to, not because she demanded it, but because of the calm she carried.

Ella's lasting presence is felt in the lives she touched. 💕

We are heartbroken to share that Ella, matriarch of our Elephant Rescue Centre in Haryana, has passed away at 84. She slowed down in the past year, choosing her own pace, her own space, until she stopped going for walks altogether.

Rescued in 2013, we treasure our time with her and will miss her.

Veer’s progress has been steady and encouraging.

He is responding well to treatments, including regular foot care, and laser therapy to ease discomfort in his right forelimb. He has also begun target training, a positive, trust-based method that helps him comfortably participate in his care.

#Rescued Gracie has found her new favorite activity, the hanging log enrichment!

Filled with treats like honey, peanut butter, and dates, it’s something she keeps coming back to. She nudges it, explores it, spends time with it in her own way, almost like she’s discovering something new each time.

Gracie has stepped into a life of warmth and care at Wildlife SOS. Wary and anxious, she took in her new space-the soft mud under her paws and lush bushes, away from the noisy streets she was once forced to walk.

As she slowly settled in, her confidence grew, and she excitedly climbed up a tree.

A wholesome start for Gracie.

#Rescued after a life of poor nutrition and brutal removal of her teeth, she can no longer eat hard food.

Before her journey to Wildlife SOS, she was offered soft fruits. Her transport crate was padded with straw and they gave plenty of rest breaks during travel.

🚨 #Rescued

Chained. Blinded. Her muzzle pierced.

Rescued from Jharkhand, this 12 year old spent her life trapped in the illegal ‘dancing bear’ trade, controlled through pain and fear.

We named her Gracie.

She now needs medical care and a chance to heal.

When Zara’s instincts take over

Shaking, nudging, and pushing a tree until branches give way — watching her forage during her walk is pure joy.

Elephants spend ~75% of their day foraging in the wild, and at Wildlife SOS, we ensure rescued elephants have the space to express this natural behavior.

Cheer on as Veer takes a dip in the hydrotherapy pool!

The water’s buoyancy leaves him feeling lighter as his muscles decompress and relax. The soreness soothes, giving way to relief.

All the splashing around is the cherry on top!

Can you help support Veer? give.wildlifesos.org/page/183612/...
