Me too! This graphic recording is by Sara Ahmed. I'm great at the mind-mapping part, just not the 'making it look good' part!

This is a graphic recording of an online co-design workshop for BEYOND, a peace game project. It shows a mind map of two main categories, the PURPOSE of the workshop and the BRAINSTORM strategies. There are five main themes: Family Separation (in conflict zones); The Dynamic of Recruitment (of children into illegal economies); Childcare; Training; and "No Easy Wins".

Family Separation has the following subthemes:
Mandatory evaluations; one parent must be present with their children.
Psychological pressure due to family separation.
Parents joining armed forces.
Feeling of inequality not having both parents.
Threats of conscription.
Experiencing displacement.
Ill-equipped bomb shelters; lacking needs for mothers and children.
Mine safety; briefings in schools.
Constant drone and missile strikes.

The Dynamic of Recruitment has the following subthemes:
What are the socio-economic contexts in which children are raised?
How does this situation push children into illegal economies?
Not only armed foces but child labour including being an assistant, cooking, cleaning, deliveries, etc.
Modality of recruitment including social media platforms like TikTok...
Understanding the vulnerabilities in urban warfare.
False promised of wealth, expensive goods, glamourous lifestyle...
Indigenous organisations providing protective and preventative education programmes to challenge to 'social messaging'.
Healing, reintegration and re-harmonization of children who have returned.
Strengthening roles of families in avoiding dangerous dynamics with collective approach.

Childcare has the following subthemes:
Gendered experiences e.g. boy perceived as security risk.
Lack of access to pediatric care impacting physical and mental health.
Those with sensory impairments not able to notice warning signs/alerts.

No Easy Win has the following subthemes:
Less legal approach is more effective.
Who are the different actors? Civil society, church, religious groups.

Page 1 of Policy Briefing booklet. The text reads:

Key policy findings
1.	Use trauma-informed, racially literate approaches to exploring colonial history, centring multiple voices over singular narratives.
2.
Resource public parks, libraries, and museums as essential belonging spaces for all.
3.
Use inclusive, varied methods (e.g., tactile, visual) to make heritage engagement accessible to diverse communities.
Summary
The 1938 Empire Exhibition was one of Scotland’s largest public events, yet its history is now largely absent from Glasgow’s collective memory. For today’s diverse communities, particularly people seeking asylum, migrants, people of colour, and young people, the legacies of empire continue to shape experiences of identity, representation, safety, and belonging. Understanding how people make sense of these narratives has clear implications for heritage, culture, equalities, integration, and anti-racism policy.
This document summarises a new understanding of how Scottish people interpret colonial history (specifically in Glasgow) and what this means for heritage, culture, equalities, and anti-racism policy. It will:
•	Present clear accessible insights from research workshops in 2025
•	Highlight participants’ voices, lived experiences, and emotional responses
•	Communicate 3 core themes relevant to heritage, anti-racism and equalities policy
Core Themes
•	Growing Racial Literacy and Shifting Understanding
•	Healing, Safety, and Wellbeing
•	Belonging and Everyday Infrastructures
Conversations addressing colonial history can support racial literacy, wellbeing, and belonging in Glasgow today; when handled carefully and in partnership with those most affected.
Further information
This policy briefing draws on insights from “Decolonising the British Empire Exhibition of 1938 through Augmented Reality Narratives”. Contact Dr Daisy Abbott at d.abbott@gsa.ac.uk or visit https://sit.gsa.ac.uk/project/decolonising-augmented-reality for more information.

This really does look like one of the best jobs ever. And the recruitment process is impressively inclusive as well.

(Maybe I'll start writing more public-facing pieces so next time this comes up I'll meet the requirements! Absolute dream job for a researcher with great writing skills...)

I'm still looking to solve the mystery of the India pavilion (or lack thereof) and I noticed a sign for India/Ceylon outside what looks like a cafe but no sense of if this was the building with the dome in our 3D model... if anyone knows more please get in touch :-)

I've been having fun with a new platform for #interactiveFiction, qynari.com (except, of course, I'm using it for interactive #learning materials!) It's designed to be visual and lower code than #twine and they are actively seeking user feedback atm.

Worth a look :-)
