three rolls of gaff tape next to a yellow portos bag
I took a trip to Burbank! Made pilgrimages to the two most important locations: FilmTools for gaff tape and Portos Bakery for churro croissants #burbank #gafftape #gaffer #portos
New episode! @paulcutler.org and @todbot.com share a second screen for your Bambu Labs 3D printer, photogrammetry, a neat little eink eReader, and more. Find the show wherever you get your podcasts or visit www.thebootloader.net/episodes/202...

Dangit I think I might need to actually learn Rust. In Electron, a minimal app to control blink(1)s weighs in at 285 MB on disk. An equivalent Tauri Rust app is 5.5 MB! github.com/todbot/elect...

Coming Monday on a new episode of The Bootloader: @todbot.com and @paulcutler.org discuss an eink eReader, photogrammetry, an open source microcontroller, and a helper for Bambu Labs printers:
Artemis II crew view this morning from 41,756 miles (67,200 km)
A stunning view of Artemis II core stage separation.

There are now 10 toilets in Space
International Space Station: 4
Crew Dragon Docked at ISS: 1
Soyuz Docked at ISS: 1
Tiangong Space Station: 2
Shenzhou Docked at TSS: 1
Artemis II on way around Moon: 1
This will be the first time a toilet has left low earth orbit!
Can't wait to watch this! Despite that first photo making Ariel look like an elite assassin, the show is really all about science
Catch up on the latest episode with guest @johnpark.bsky.social and stay till the end to hear him share some of his favorite synths:
Pic of Utrecht from 1982 to now
I put "trams" as one of my interests on my name badge at #atmosphereconf as a joke, but this before/after of Utrecht in the Netherlands is why...
Urban spaces in North America are mostly awful, and traditional 19th/early 20th century spaces were torn down or filled in for highways
New blog post (2 days in a row!?) - circuitpython-bambulabs published!: www.paulcutler.org/blog/2026/03... (With a special thanks to todbot and foamyguy)
This is so neat!
Listen to the latest epiosode of The CircuitPython Show and hear some @johnpark.bsky.social's favorite CircuitPython memories, including this one:
Palm III pda in its dock with a serial cable connector.
On this Palm Sunday, we commemorate our lord and savior Palm III
A screenshot of a macOS terminal with output from a CircuitPython microcontroller. It shows printer stats including: State, File, Job, Progress, Remaining, Layer, Print speed, print error, Nozzle temp, Bed temp, Chamber temp, part fan, aux fan, chamber fan, nozzle type, nozzle diameter, wifi signal, light state, and firmware version - all printed out nicely on the screen with the stats next to the category. Below that is the raw JSON.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a working BambuLabs #CircuitPython library, making it easy to query info about your printer. This way people can build UIs on top of the easy to get data.
a 4 inch by 4 inch display that shows Bambu Printer printing at the top, followed by 0.16mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill. under that it has 3% ETA: 4h 3m with the Nozzle and Bed temperatures under that as well as fan speed (which isn't working yet, shows blank)
I've been sharing progress on Mastodon, but I have a proof of concept running that shows some Bambu Lab printer stats on a 4" Qualia display running #CircuitPython:

I've taken to having all the USB devices I'm developing on plugged into my Linux desktop and ssh-ing into it for REPL and remote editing (w/ Emacs or Zed) for editing. No USB issues!
Yeah if you use “discotool” for CircuitPython, no you won’t on Tahoe. (Nor will “lsusb” tool work if you’ve installed that from homebrew)
The output of "system_profiler -json SPUSBDataType" on pre-Tahoe systems. Very useful!
The equivalent output from "system_profiler -json SPUSBHostDataType" on MacOS Tahoe. Not Useful!
Another stupid MacOS 26 Tahoe change making my life harder. In Tahoe, several USB tools I use are broken. They call `system_profiler SPUSBDataType` internally to get USB info. In Tahoe that's gone, replaced by "SPUSBHostDataType", which returns not enough info #macos #tahoe #USB #macos26
#Paris has new Mayor! Emmanuel Grégoire is an environmentalist who rode to his City Hall inauguration on bikeshare.
Change in last decade: 100s of school streets closed to cars; Seine clean enough to swim in; more trips by bike than car.
