Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

We really must rethink what we mean by economic growth - it also has to be sustainable, and so must also encompass metrics beyond the financial.

How England’s outdated water tracking system leaves regulators in the dark Experts warn accurately monitoring consumption by bulk users such as farmers, datacentres and businesses can be all but impossible

We need robust, integrated measurement of water use & wastewater generation across catchments & nationwide.

Without it, we cannot improve efficiency, expand recycling and reuse, or secure long‑term water resilience.

We need Government incentives to drive this.

Data centres to be expanded across UK as concerns mount The number of data centres is set to jump by a fifth in the coming years, figures seen by the BBC suggest.

If new data centres add 71 TWh of energy demand, that means an increase in water demand of ~135 billion litres per year.

Adopting circular economy strategies for water management should be the enabler.

Delighted to be working with Northumbrian Water, Waterwhelm, AtkinsRéalis, SSE Thermal & others to deliver high purity water from treated final effluent using waste heat. The recovered water will be reused in industry, thereby reducing fresh water demand & demonstrating a circular economy approach.

The carbon footprint of this waste is about 14,720 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to someone driving their petrol car for 3,200 years.

8,000 tonnes of waste plastic, card and foil will come from the packaging around these wasted Easter eggs.

The UK will waste 8 million chocolate eggs this Easter, which is about 10% of what is purchased over the counter.

This has a water footprint of about 38.4 billion litres, equivalent to roughly 15,360 Olympic swimming pools worth of water.

About 80% of micropollutants come from pharmaceutical or cosmetic use, so why should the manufacturers of such products not pay towards wastewater treatment?
