Discussion with the rheumatologist consistently improved uptake.
A simple, actionable message:
Integrate vaccination discussions into routine care!
Posts by Kim Lauper
Belief in vaccination importance was associated with:
• ↑ vaccination check (OR 2.07)
• ↑ influenza vaccination (OR 4.01)
COVID-19 pandemic impact was mixed: 18% ↑ vs 18% ↓ willingness to be vaccinated.
In 2446 patients with AIIRD (SCQM):
• 78% believe vaccination is important
• 52% believe it is both important & safe
Yet uptake remains low:
• 48% vaccination status checked
• 51% influenza
• 33% pneumococcal
👉 Beliefs ≠ uptake

Women’s authorship in RCTs: how much, how is it evolving?
We analyzed the gender of authors in all #randomizedtrials in #rheumatology since 2009.
Short answer: Not great, and not improving.

The image is a screenshot of a post on X by The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ ). The post reads: "Federal immigration authorities detained a Turkish graduate student at Tufts University. The government hasn’t filed any charges against Rumeysa Ozturk, who was in the U.S. on a student visa, her lawyer said. Read more: on.wsj.com/3E3AM0b." Below the text, there is an image showing a person in a hoodie detaining another person in a white coat and headscarf outside an apartment, with a car and another person in a cap nearby. The image caption reads: "off-campus apartment."
This should chill everyone in this country to the bone. All she did was write an OpEd the administration didn’t like. This is fascistic suppression of free speech.
Given that James Smithson dedicated his fortune to the increase and diffusion of knowledge, he’s likely spinning in his grave at Trump’s crusade against science, education, and truth — and now his attempt to hijack the Smithsonian itself.

Women were less involved in industry-funded or large-sample RCTs (often high-impact), and more often employed in pharma (non-academic roles).
But: when the last author was a woman, the first author was more likely to be a woman too.
What we found:
Women = 40% of all authors
Only 37% of first authors and 26% of last authors are women
No improvement over time
Using the database from his and Michel Iudici's SNSF-funded project on transparency in RCTs (data.snf.ch/grants/grant...), we analysed ALL rheumatology RCTs published from 2009 to 2023.
That’s over 1,000 trials and nearly 11,000 authors.
While doing a systematic review of head-to-head trials in rheumatoid arthritis, I had the impression that most first and last authors were men. I complained (loudly) in the office.
My colleague Denis Mongin said:
“We can actually check that.”
And so we did. 👇
Guess this is what greatness looks like 🙄

We’re in an era of unbelievable headlines.

Freedom of speech shouldn't depend on political alignment. Detaining a student for expressing dissenting views is deeply troubling — this undermines democratic values and sets a dangerous precedent.
