Local patch visit this week got me a bird species count of 21 seen, which included my first sighting on my local patch of a Whitethroat for this year. Was also nice to see so much nesting going on around the reserve as well. #sussexbirding @sussexornitholo.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social
There was a fire last night at Pegwell Bay NNR. ๐
It tore through the reedbeds quickly & in the aftermath this morning, it's clear the impacts are pretty devastating - around 300m of scorched earth.
The fire, believed to have been started deliberately, occurred during breeding bird season...

Only 16 species seen today at my local patch despite the lovely weather, including Rook, Song Thrush, Little Egret, Buzzard and Dunnock. Plenty of butterfly species though which was nice, including Brimstone and Orange Tip. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @sussexornitholo.bsky.social #sussexbirds

Local patch visit today started quiet but improved thankfully with 18 bird species seen. Not a single sighting of Redwings so probably all gone now from here sadly, making the reserve feel kind of empty today. Hopefully that will change soon with spring on the way. @sussexornitholo.bsky.social
An afternoon at WWT London Wetland Centre today with thankfully not too much rain. Managed to get a bird species count of 33, including a decent number of Sand Martins, a dozen Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and of course plenty of Ring-necked Parakeets and Waterfowl around. #londonbirds #birdwatching
Easy to hear, hard to see (and even harder to photograph). Great perky pose captured here by Barry Clough. ๐
Local patch visit today got me a bird species count of 22, highlights included Red Kite soaring over the meadows and first Bullfinch of the year for my patch. Also had an interesting encounter with an energetic Mink. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @sussexornitholo.bsky.social #sussexbirds #nature
A very wet visit today to Nutfield Marsh, but still managed to get a thirty four bird species count. Highlight would have to be my first Bullfinch of the year. @surreybirdnews.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social #surreybirds
One of the several very friendly Robins that was following me around Warnham Nature Reserve, this one in particular even trying to land on my camera at one point. @sussexornitholo.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social #sussexbirds #wildlife #nature #birds
