"Buses aren’t a statutory entitlement" - oof, as a non-driver, living in a rural area, this hit hard. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Yep. Bastards. A former colleague had something like that and - with admirable chutzpah in the circumstances - raised this publicly in a Q and A with management. Probably not an option here...
A Curlew walks on grassy ground, showing a yellow leg flag and orange ring on its leg. Wording below reads: Please report sightings of Curlew with yellow leg flags. Image credit reads: Rob Robinson.
1/ Spotted a yellow leg flag on a Curlew? Please share the sighting with us, as this could be one of our headstarted birds. 😀 Report via bit.ly/ReportACurlew #Ornithology #WorldCurlewDay
That's less than reassuring, isn't it? This really is basic.
Oh dear, my commiserations - geographical/linguistic accuracy v. general usage. Could be worse, I remember a rail company serving Cambridge used to be known as 'West Anglia Great Northern' which was ugly AND confusing.

Erm, no. Well, linguistically, technically, it is in the east of Anglia/England, but... Nope. Who on earth is saying this?!
Now, we can't be there, and this is not VCH work, but this is the essence of the sort of thing we try to do: sharing records of places with the people interested in that place. #Skystorians

Our Partners at the Thames Festival Trust are advertising for a Heritage Project Manager. Could this be you? thamesfestivaltrust.org/about-us/joi...
Hahahahahahahahahaha. No indeed.
As ever @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social is spot on.
Can you imagine expecting a defect preventing people in cars from using a road having a standard 28 day wait to fix it?
If we are serious about inclusion, then our streets must work for children, older and disabled people all the time.
You'll have to find him first.
It's almost as though - hear me out - they have no idea of the powers they're asking the electorate to vote on. At least in Kent, they have the glimmering of a point about informal migration, because elements of it are in the budget.
Not in the way they're talking about it, of course...
It makes the 2010s look like paradise

"This means that before reaching Tripoli, the book had already been seized by Crusader forces, likely during the 1099 conquest of Jerusalem."
Even by the standards of 'Reform UK' this is a very silly manifesto pledge (seriously, government really ought to have better things to do...).
Day with a 'y' in it.
No problem - I see @marcmorris.bsky.social made much the same point. Ironically, the whole point of the numbering stressed the continuity of the state either side of the conquest which isn’t generally how it’s perceived!
So in the original form, it’s very obvious that everyone knew there were earlier Edwards.
The later numbering is, as much as anything else, a result of the very small number of names used.
It’s an administrative shorthan that stuck, that’s all. 2/2
The numbering (in contemporary materials), comes about in the reign of Edward III. Fairly obviously, since the standard form of administrative date was the regnal year (i.e. the year of the reign), then a third Edward in a row needed to be differentiated.
‘Edward the third after the conquest’. 1/2
If London South Bank is doing this from financial distress then it should have notified OfS that there’s a serious danger of bankruptcy so students can be protected.
If it’s not, then this is simple asset-sweating cartoon capitalist evil and their leaders need to be sacked. Like mine.
