Too late for #WorldCurlewDay, but just in time for #WaderWednesday. Inspired by all the fantastic poems, that were in the competition run by @curlewaction.bsky.social. 🤎🖤🩶
Watercolour painting of a curlew with a glint in the eye and a mighty beak.
A day late for World Curlew Day, but here’s my watercolour and ink curlew for the occasion. #watercolour #painting #worldcurlewday #curlew
Following on from #WorldCurlewDay yesterday visitors to the #LDV may come across some of our new signs when next visiting the site - please keep to the Public Rights of Way and keep dogs on a short lead (less than 2m), our Curlew and other breeding birds need all the help they can get.
Great display of singing Curlew in the #LDV last night on #WorldCurlewDay with up to five pairs present on site and passage birds moving through @yorkbirding.bsky.social
Front cover of Y Barcud, the magazine for members of the RSPB in Wales. Image of a Curlew displaying. Text reads: Curlew calling - our collaborative work in north Wales shows there is hope for a Curlew recovery. Other stories trailed on the cover are (1) Nature cure: how prescribing time in nature is helping people. (2) Big Garden Birdwatch - find out how our garden birds are faring this year.
An almost perfectly timed arrival for #WorldCurlewDay, given the small matter of a bank holiday.

We couldn't let #WorldCurlewDay pass without sharing these beauties - a stunning curlew captured recently in #NorthumberlandNationalPark.
Curlews are endangered due to habitat loss and so it is wonderful to see Britain's largest majestic wader return to the National Park in spring.
Here's my poem for #WorldCurlewDay yesterday run by @curlewaction.bsky.social - can't wait to see the Curlew mural by #ATM #GloucestershireNaturalistsSociety in Stroud
Very excited to see @rspb.bsky.social launching their #Curlew action plan to coincide with #WorldCurlewDay one of the many reasons why I’m glad to be an RSPB life fellow. www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happen...

#WorldCurlewDay reminds us to focus on problems facing large waders/shorebirds.
In the last four years, Slender-billed Curlew has joined Eskimo Curlew on the 'probably extinct' list.
Marbled and Hudsonian Godwits have been 'promoted' too.

In #folklore hearing a curlew call is said to mean bad luck if heard at night or bad weather if during the day, but personally I always count myself lucky whenever I hear their calls across the mudflats in winter #WorldCurlewDay

Afternoon view of saltmarsh and tidal creeks at Thornham in Norfolk
It’s #WorldCurlewDay. What better time to share my plans for a curlew #linocut print? I’ve been thinking about it since watching a beautiful curlew foraging in the saltmarsh creeks at Thornham in Norfolk.

Three Eurasian curlew eggs in a nest scrape. The nest scrape is lined with light brown dry grass. The nest is surrounded by green flowering sedges. The yellow anthers of the black sedge flowers are visible. The curlew eggs are greeny-brown with darker brown blotchy spots. They are about 6.5cm in length and 4.5cm in breadth.
Appropriately for #WorldCurlewDay the Upper Thames Wader Group fencing team protected its first nest* of the season today @mikepnature.bsky.social. HT to Noah Walker who located the nest yesterday.
*Location data removed.
On #WorldCurlewDay a Eurasian Curlew settling to nest in fenland meadows near the German village of Bergenhusen in Schleswig-Holstein, alongside numerous pairs of Black-tailed Godwits, a few Lapwings, while on the coast at Schlüttsiel, lots of Ruff in crazy plumage variations. #BirdsSeenIn2025. 1/8
