There’s always media coverage for those trying to disparage #high-speed rail or pretty much any #transit improvements. But oddly less coverage for opposition to road building. It’s almost as if most media is biased in favour of the road lobby. Perish the thought. #WorldPublicTransportDay

without #railways we would not have opened continental interiors; moved #freight for Industrial Revolution; built #streetcars that made suburbs; dug #subways that crossed cities, ran #buses that gave #mobility to those without cars.

Hard to disagree with @ttcriders.bsky.social : other countries have promoted public #transit during this crisis.

It can be done: Bravo NewSouthWales! #FossilFuel is not a pre requisite of mobility. Keep up the investment to protect the plant from pollution.

Who remembers these from 1978 when #BBCRadio3 took over #BBCRadio1 old frequency of 247m? Found in loft with the cute little stickers still intact. Recall using some to stick on my old little ITT transistor #radio! Love the 70’s #logo for each station.

Someone somewhere (coughs construction companies and consultants) are benefitting from overcharging UK & US #highspeed #rail projects. Plus strangling their chances of being employed more as governments cut back on overpriced schemes. Wake up people! Work together on building better/greener futures.

There’s some evidence Met Office’s relatively small number of weather stations underestimate real temps/micro climates. Here’s a selection of screenshots across southern England yesterday seen on domestic stations (maybe they are badly installed but was deffo hotter than 26). Historic average: 10

Superb article on why Britain is not delivering new #lightrail chriscurtismk.substack.com/p/to-grow-th... includes this revelation: "a senior DfT official joked at their leaving drinks that their proudest achievement was making sure no new tram projects were brought forward". How very sad UK is.

More American #transit cuts: they built an entire brand new #streetcar line (a tram basically) in #DC… did not publicise it well (never appeared on the #Metro map), so now it’s being closed down. Absolute lunacy.

American friends: lobby who you know to stop these cuts in #transit! The budgets have been approved by Congress but a certain someone wants to cut them.

Old rivalries between 2 south-coast cities may emerge as new local authorities will make population around #Portsmouth bigger than that around #Southampton. My question: if both are to serve over half a million: what will their #transport plans be? Major investment in #lightrail I hope!
