As Kevin points out, this now routine reframing or sidelining of the impacts of climate change (or “shift”🤣🙄) as kinda positive - or that affected species are somehow “pioneers” - is far from enough to hide the reality we all know.

Hottest summer ever. So far…

More insipid climate reporting from the BBC (hottest summer on record). Mostly pictures of people splashing around having fun.

Probably time to stop tinkering around the edges and take this very, very seriously?

With immediate, rapid and huge change on a whole societal level, we might just scrape through. But we need to stop kidding ourselves and start acting in response to the reality we face.

@greenparty.org.uk “10,000 plants, animals and birds threatened with extinction” needs fact-checking. That is the total number of species studied from the last State of Nature report.

Oldest known wild bird, Wisdom, is back!

Oh, yes, at this time of the year we're all waiting for Wisdom to return to her breeding grounds, the Midway atoll. Fingers crossed.

Two things. Last year, she returned early December. And, apparently, 73 year old Wisdom got a new boyfriend in 2023.

A beautifully illustrated scene of a Turtle Dove in graceful flight. Its soft, mottled plumage of golden-brown and black is intricately detailed, with a flash of white framing the tail feathers. The serene blue sky, with wispy clouds and a hint of snow falling softly, provides a peaceful, wintery backdrop. Below, a patchwork of frosted green fields and winding country paths stretches across the landscape, dotted with cottages, hedgerows, and shimmering streams. This tranquil depiction highlights the Turtle Dove's vital connection to rural habitats, a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation efforts for this declining species.

A True Paradise: WHERE WE ARE HEADING - Kevin Anderson YouTube video by United Nations University - EHS

Prof Kevin Anderson has been hugely influential in my understanding of the climate emergency. He communicates the facts clearly and concisely without any spin. No sugar coating or hopium whatsoever. #lowcarbonbirding

This is a recent typical summation of where we are:
