I had an awesome time this week being able to present in front of high school aged writers about AI for writers. We talked about ethics, bias, writing that WAS generated by AI, and how they can use AI to help make them better writers. It was so much fun! #AIinEducation #InstructionaTechnology

On this #DLDay, I've been working on using @bookcreator.com to help our 6th Grade English team create a resource for students to place research for their assessment for next unit. I'm so excited to see what the students put together!
During Covid, we had a 4 day week of teaching, with Wednesdays being our day to grade and hold office hours for students if they needed extra support. I LOVED that setup. It was great to get that small group instruction time in, and really helped with grading. Highly recommend #bfc530

I think if it was 10 years ago, I would definitely be teaching a course on "Creative Writing through RolePlaying." I was HUGE into playing Final Fantasy XIV, and loved RPing. It was so much fun, and really made me a better writer!
Now, I'd probably teach AI tools.

I firmly believe that culture of a school starts at the Principal. They have the ability to change the whole climate I've worked for principals who held students accountable and made the school feel like home, and I've worked with the opposite. They lead, and students follow the vibes #BFC530

Exactly! Why are they going to spend the time trying the shiny tech thing when it isn't reliable, and paper and pencil has always worked! With all of the stresses on my teachers, I don't blame them one bit! I wish they would be more willing and excited for tech, but I get it! #BFC530
There's a lot of the issue! People making decisions about how things should be done, and they're stuck in that before Covid, before 1:1 land. They are going off of what training was when they were in the classroom, and aren't considering changing needs. #BFC530
I also think that we're facing a shortage of trained teachers. In one of the buildings I work in, we're staffed, but 70% of those teachers are Associate Teachers, or Provisional Teachers (whichever language you use). They didn't have any of that training, so they're lost! #BFC530
This is what we have in our schools. I'm an Instructional Technology Coach, and I work closely with our school's Technology Support Specialist. Teachers have a hard time understanding that we're different roles, even though we articulate it often and recommend reaching out to the other. #BFC530
I helped one of my teachers create a Space where kids got to chat with Thomas Jefferson! It was wonderful because inevitably, when kids asked things that were off topic, they were gently guided back to the work! I don't have the link right now, but if I find it, I'll definitely share! #LoveSchoolAI
How do I use @schoolai.com ? I share the tools and assistants with my teachers to help save them time, and show them how they can build interactive spaces for their students! So many activities, so little time...to create! Love how it saves us time and increases engagement! #LoveSchoolAI
Exactly. It's a great differentiation strategy, but we're not addressing the root cause of the issues because we don't have the time/resources/understanding, etc. I know social promotion is a thing, but until we stop that and make sure students have the skills to move on, I don't know how to fix it.
I feel as if a lot of that is happening at the secondary levels, where teachers have students who aren't reading on level. Secondary teachers don't have the time or the background to be able to teach how to read, so they do what they can to get the content out. #BFC530
