Just finished The Cloisters by Katy Hays and absolutely loved it. Dark academia meets a gripping thriller, with a dash of Gothic echoes and a sprinkle of Renaissance Tarot. Highly recommend! #reading #Gothic #DarkAcademia #Tarot

Sad news and great loss. #linguistics www.theguardian.com/education/20...
Looking forward to it!
I’ve got good memories from that route 🤣 I’ve been recommending the book to people, I really enjoyed it. Clever use of language too 🤓
I’ve recently finished The Terminus of All Things by @jayneill.com and it was so much fun. A lovely debut novel, felt a bit like Jasper Fforde for grown-ups. My favourite train route from Waterloo to Portsmouth was a bonus 🤓. Highly recommend! #bookwormjoy
Loved the first two episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy! Diverse characters, funny dialogues, beautiful visuals. Absolutely loving Chancellor Nahla Ake - academia deserves more leaders like her! #StarTeek #StarfleetAcademy #academia
Really enjoyed the first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy 🖖🏻, it was fun! Anyone knows if they have any vacancies at this institution? I could teach a lot of things 🤓 #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy #academia
Just registered for this one. Looking very much forward to this talk! #pragmatics #communication
Finally diving into #HeatedRivalry 😁 It’s been a long way for UK release!
As someone who is not your typical academic, it continues to surprise me (and it brings me joy) to think I’m currently working as co-editor on not one, but two projects! A book on doctoral education and language, and a special journal issue on Third Space. #ThirdSpace #HigherEdSky
I had a break from the radio for a while, but this season calls for Magic Christmas. I have missed you @danofftheradio.bsky.social ! 🎄🎧 #ChristmasMusic
It’s been a while, but turns out I haven’t forgotten the skill to submitting a conference abstract by the skin of my teeth 🤣 #conferencing
Every time I hear an ambulance, I think of this quote from Blood Read (Gordon and Hollinger 1997): ‘As the land empties, cities fill up-to provide enormous blood banks for those who seek blood. No wonder ambulances wail like banshees.’ Well yes, I wrote my PhD on #vampires
Long dining table seen from above with different noodle dishes. Written above is Chef’s Table Noodles.
Just caught up with the final episode of #ChefsTable Noodles, featuring Nite Yun. I missed watching Chef’s Table - one of my favourite foodie programmes, every episode is so beautifully done. It’s much more than food - it’s people’s stories. Thank you, David Gelb!
I have also recently done the CQ Cultural Intelligence course. This is a great addition to my toolkit, for the work I’ve been doing with and for international students. CQ complements EQ well in compassionate education, especially in the context of international higher education 2/2
Over the last few weeks, I have done important training. First, I had an opportunity to do Mental Health First Aid training with @mhfaengland.bsky.social and now I’m a certified MHFAider. Such an intense but valuable course, to be able to support others. Grateful for the tools I was given. 1/2
And finally, at the end of June I attended #UKCISA2025 where I found the perfect network for my current job focused on international student success. I’m definitely coming back next year! I’m now looking forward to my next season of #conferencing 🤓 4/4
At the beginning of June, I went to #AHEP2025 and it was such a joy! I have wanted to join the Association of HE Professionals for a while, and I feel this is now my new tribe, as I have moved from academic to professional services. #conferencing 3/4
After Easter, in April I attended #BALEAP2025. This has been my community for many years now, and I got to present on my #ThirdSpace career journey. But it was bittersweet as it might have been my last, as I have now moved away from EAP #conferencing 2/4
As the conference season has ended for me, I reflect on the events I attended this past academic year (24-25). In Nov 2024, I attended THE Campus+ Live and it was a great event. I really enjoyed listening to many HE leaders walking about sustainable future for the sector #conferencing 1/4
Here we go! Very excited to be in Manchester at the #UKCISA2025 conference until Friday! #internationalstudents #conferencing
We need to shift what we consider academic impact and impactful work, and stop focusing on what contracts people are on (better still: let’s abandon contract divide). #academia www.hepi.ac.uk/2025/06/10/r...
I’d be happy with one bottle of wine!
The closing keynote focuses on the commitment to compassionate communication - by Ben Rogers from the Academic Registrars’ Council (ARC) #AHEP2025 #conferencing #HigherEd
After a working session on student evaluation data and a coffee break, we’re now in another exciting panel on addressing challenges across the four nations #AHEP2025 #conferencing #HigherEd
Good luck!
I took a little break yesterday afternoon, but now time to start day 2 of #AHEP2025 ! We start with Public Leadership: delivering promise, by Prof. Mike Hardy. #conferencing #leadership #academia
We continue with a panel on the evolving student engagement #AHEP2025
Time for our opening keynote #AHEP2025
First full day of #AHEP2025 coming up! We started with the Welcome Breakfast for the regional networks and SIGs. It was great to represent the International HE SIG as part of the new coordinators team🤓 Now time for the opening talks! #conferencing #ProfessionalServices
