The Politics of Ethnic Studies, Cultural Centers, and Student Activism: The Voices of Black Women at the Academic Borderlands Dissertation Defense Frederick Smith Monday, March 26, 2018, 1 - 3 pm Loyola Marymount University Dr. Antonia Darder, Dissertation Chair Dr. Bryant K. Alexander, Dissertation Committee Dr. Kortney Hernandez, Dissertation Committee
Antonia Darder is with Frederick Smith and Kortney Hernandez. Tuesday at 9:32 AM • 6 Always a powertul moment to see our doctoral students advance research that provide powerful counternarratives to the "official" mainstream fallacies. In this case, Frederick Smith completed an eloquent study that centered the voices of Black women faculty, staff, and students who are also activists, speaking about their experiences in the academic borderlands. Also exciting was to have my former student and colleague, Dr. Kortney Hernandez serve on Fred's doctoral committee as both colleague and comrade. It was truly a moment that reminded me why I have persisted in this university work for more than 30 years. So, big congratulations to Fred! And, thank yous to Dr. Kortney Hernandez and Dr. Bryant Alexander for their invaluable support of Fred's work.
3/26/2018.

Learning who the workplace gossips are is important when developing an information management skillset. Very important to know who the "run and tell that" people are. Also important to communicate with supervisor so that there are no surprises. Supervisors dislike surprises. 🎓 #HRSky #HigherEdSky
