Utah has just approved a 1,300-person "mega camp" for homeless individuals, This camp lacks transportation, features locked units, and even imposes forced labor.
They refer to this facility as "work-conditioned housing," but we simply call it what it is: modern-day internment.
This is hell.

It was David McBride who blew the whistle, triggering the Brereton report & laying the groundwork for Ben Roberts‑Smith’s charges.
The thanks he got was jail, while war criminals roamed free.
It’s about time Roberts-Smith is put away for good, but McBride must be released.

"What can Democrats do?"
When the South Korean president attempted to declare martial law, South Korean lawmakers literally fought through tanks and military forces and climbed fences to get into their Parliament building to stop him.
So, you know, that.

Black and white photographs of Parramatta Centenary Uniting Church. People are seated at tables on a raised stage and on the ground floor, engaged in discussions and working on laptops. A large wooden cross is visible on the brick wall behind the stage. People focused on their laptops, printed materials and a QR code flyer are visible on the table. Other attendees are seated in the background. Other people standing together, smiling and laughing. Some attendees are visible mingling in the background near the entrance. CLDC in full launch!

Bad immigration economics assumes every extra person is one less seat. Good economics notices they also bring a seat, a side dish, and demand for the bloke selling drinks.
The first story is fear; the second is how economies work.

NEW EPISODE | Australia’s fossil fuel subsidies are out of control
Listen to Follow the Money now via the link or wherever you get your podcasts.
Fossil fuel subsidies are growing faster than spending on the NDIS.
@rodcampbell.bsky.social says it’s time to call out the idea that governments can’t afford to support Australians in need, yet can dish out $31,020 per minute on climate-destroying subsidies. #auspol

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.

Australian media isn’t covering this but what’s happening in Cuba is dreadful. Trump signed an executive order cutting off Cuba’s last oil supply. Ten million people are paying with their lives. Sewage systems are failing, food is rationed, it’s getting worse.

LETTER TO PREMIER MINNS from James R
Dear Premier Minns I was arrested yesterday outside the Sydney Town Hall yesterday evening charged with
assaulting a police officer. During my violent arrest I sustained several bloody injuries. I can barely walk today and my right
kidney hurts very badly as a result of its being punched. Or perhaps I have a cracked rib? The demonstration was pretty much over when the police, backed up by eight or so fellow officers on horseback, started to aggressively push the crowd south, into an already very crowded space. I have witnessed this tactic before - used by police to generate a violent
retaliatory response. Up until then the police had been calm and respectful of we demonstrators. Then, they changed
and became violent, as the footage you would have access to makes clear. Clearly, someone in the chain of command instructed the police to create chaos and violent confrontations in order to retrospectively justify the large police presence yesterday, to use as evidence in support of the banning of future demonstrations, and in the hope that the media will
play along and hold we demonstrators responsible for inciting violence.
Was it you who issued the edict to foment violence or someone else in the chain of command? After 5 hours in a police cell with no offer of water or medical attention for my various injuries I was released without charge - the 'assault police officer' allegation having been dropped when
it became apparent, from body cam footage, that I had not done so. 1am a 76 year old filmmaker and journalist and request a response to this letter and an indication of whom I should approach within your government to have my spectacles and torn
short replaced and my medical expenses paid?
cheers
