A seven panel comic starring two bugs, a large blue beetle and a small ladybug larva. In the first panel, we see the backs of the two bugs as they watch a superhero show through a window. The larva asks, “hey Beetle, do you think we could ever be superheroes?” In the second panel, the beetle says, “definitely! All it takes is a willingness and ability to stand up to tyranny.” In the third panel, the larva says, “and super powers. We would need super powers.” In the fourth panel, with wings emerging from elytra, the beetle says, “I can fly! What would be your super power?” In the fifth panel, the larva, with shining eyes, says, “I think it would have to be my insatiable hunger for justice!” In the sixth panel, the blue beetle says, “see! We can be superheroes!” The larva replies, “but what would we call ourselves?” In the seventh and final panel, the blue beetle leaps from the windowsill, carrying the larva and flying through the grass as he says, “hmmm…how about Beetle Boy and Larva Lad!”

The first in a series of characters I designed for use in some short cartoons.

A two-panel comic. The first panel shows a very large Juggernaut filling most of the panel and saying, “I am giving up a life of crime to chase my dreams.” In the second panel, he is now wearing a chef’s hat. He says, “and no one can stop me.”

Juggernaut is unstoppable.

My photo shows a collection of sixteen ancient Egyptian silver bangles lined up side by side in two rows of eight, one above the other. They are arranged on wooden cylinders inside a wooden box covered in gold sheet. The lower row is partially covered by the side of the wooden box. Each silver bracelet is broad and slightly curved, like a bangle. They are decorated with multi-coloured butterflies with out-stretched wings made from tiny inlaid pieces of semi-precious blue and green turquoise, deep blue lapis lazuli, and reddish-orange carnelian. Each bracelet is decorated with at least four butterflies (not all seen), with each butterfly separated by a circular piece of reddish-orange carnelian stone. Each bracelet decreases in diameter to be worn along the queen’s forearms. When discovered in 1925, there were originally 20 bracelets in the box. An inscription on the lid of the box (not shown in my photo) says 'Mother of the King of Upper and Lower Egypt Hetepheres, box carrying rings (bangles).

They belonged to Egyptian Queen Hetepheres. From her tomb at Giza. Old Kingdom, 4th Dynasty, c. 2613-2494 BC.

Last night, I finished the first draft of a novel I’ve been dreaming of for nearly six years. My first developmental doc is dated April 2020. It feels like a stupendous milestone to have the whole thing down on “paper.”

Now that it exists, time to make it good. 🐞
