Right now the Government is choosing to consult with big business on the fuel crisis, and refusing to meet with unions. We need solutions that work for ALL New Zealanders, not just a wealthy few. #nzpol

#nzpol🚨 URGENT LETTER FROM @sandragreynzctu.bsky.social TO PARTY LEADERS REGARDING FUEL CRISIS:
*Correction: Subs close at midnight whānau that’s another 12 hours to get your submissions in! #nzpol
There's a summary of sorts in the guide - essentially it'll mean some NZers losing leave and holiday pay. Part-time and casual workers lose the most, as well as people who regularly work overtime - these workers are often already vulnerable and/or overworked. More info in our release on the Bill:
Pre 1990 AotearoaNZ union membership was roughly 40%.
Post 1990 Union membership continued to decline before stabilising at around 18% today.
Join your unions, restore our economy. An economy that works for all New Zealanders, not just the few. #nzpol #OneTermGovernment #NZCTU
#nzpol Submissions close midday today!
Protect our holidays and submit against Brooke van Velden's Employment Leave Bill:
The latest proposed cuts at TPK would mean the loss of more than 20% of the agency's workforce in just two years. This Government's agenda to hollow out Māori capability in the public service is severely undermining the ability of the state to improve outcomes for Māori communities.
A protest poster with a black-and-white illustration of a large poppy in the background. Bold red and white text reads: “no to war & fascism” at the top, “Hīkoi for Peace” in large letters in the center, and “Waitangi Park to Pukeahu, Sat, 25 April 2pm” below. A red banner at the bottom says “freedom & decolonisation now.”
Peace is and always has been union business.
This Anzac Day in Wellington a group of organisations working for peace, ecological well-being and decolonisation will be holding the Hīkoi for Peace. @sandragreynzctu.bsky.social will be speaking. Head along to stand for peace this Anzac Day. #nzpol
#nzpol Brooke van Velden is rushing through changes to the Holidays Act which could mean:
-Less holiday pay
-Less leave
-Fewer days in lieu
especially for already vulnerable part-time and casual workers.
Submissions on the Bill close 14 April - have your say:
#nzpol We’re due in for another weekend of extreme weather in the North Island. Stay safe whānau - and make sure you know your rights when working through extreme weather events and natural disasters:
Tomorrow (Friday) and Monday are both public holidays in Aotearoa New Zealand. Whether you're working or on leave you have rights - make sure you know them so you don't get shafted! #nzpol
#nzpol This May Day we're fighting back together.
Workers and their unions across Aotearoa will be standing together across the motu to commit to a strong union movement, full employment, high wages, and decent lives for all founded on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Hundreds of people will be losing their jobs in the middle of a cost of living crisis. We've seen this pattern of local manufacturing shutting down across Aotearoa - and every time one of these factories closes, it's working people and their whānau who get left out in the cold. #nzpol
#nzpol We should all be able to live with dignity.
Infographic from the NZCTU. An RNZ headline reads: 'Needed more than ever': Living Wage rises to $29.90 per hour. Under the headline is white text on a read background. Text reads: For the third year in a row the Government has increased the minimum wage by less than inflation. Life is getting more expensive, and our pay isn’t keeping up. Working New Zealanders need a Living Wage.
Your food's more expensive. Your power's more expensive. Your fuel's more expensive. But for minimum wage workers, pay's only gone up to $23.95 - that's just 45 cents an hour.
New Zealanders can't afford this Government. #nzpol
Working people cannot afford to wait while the Government pins its hopes on external forces beyond its control. We need investment in jobs, support for affected sectors, and a commitment to ensuring workers share in any economic recovery. (3/3)
Since the election, manufacturing has lost 10,000 workers. Construction has lost 19,300. There are 38,900 fewer young people in work. Workers who do have jobs are also falling behind: wages have grown by less than inflation. Working Kiwis are working harder and earning less in real terms. (2/3)
#nzpol New Zealand has lost 41,465 filled jobs in the past two years. Working people cannot afford to wait while the Government tinkers at the edges:
#nzpol The NZPFU is calling for an independent inquiry into FENZ to examine why FENZ has failed to manage funding to ensure that it has the capacity and capability for reliable emergency response to the New Zealand public.

An absolute betrayal from ACTs Brooke van Velden. The H&S Bill should not progress. We must kill the bill in honour of the 29 men killed at Pike River and the estimated 10,000 people in NZ who have died from work-related diseases or workplace fatalities since the Pike explosion in 2010. #nzpols
...these decisions demonstrate her priorities as Minister. The next Minister for Workplace Relations should be one who truly understands the struggle of workers in a cost-of-living crisis, and who listens to working people and their unions.
As Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety, van Velden has overseen some of the worst attacks on workers in our country’s history: Stealing pay equity overnight; consistently delivering real-term pay cuts for workers on the minimum wage; letting corporate lobbyists dictate our contractor law...
Brooke van Velden’s resignation is a chance
for a U-turn. The Government now has a chance to do right by working people. Will they take it? #nzpol

#nzpol Submissions on Brooke van Velden's Health and Safety amendments close NEXT WEEK:
#nzpol It is totally unacceptable that the Public Service Commissioner is attempting to turn teachers against each other and undermine solidarity across the sector. As New Zealanders we love our teachers. They deserve to be paid what they’re worth.
It’s time for Roche to take his responsibilities to support public servants seriously. It is the workers who keep the public service running, not ministers. He has an obligation to them. #nzpol
We need to do something to keep Kiwi workers safe. Submit against the Bill by Wednesday 18 March. Workers weren’t listened to when this Bill was being written—let’s make our voices heard now. Read our submission guide here:
Small businesses are often more dangerous – and now this Government is essentially giving them a free pass to harm working people.
This Bill significantly reduces health and safety protections for workers in small businesses. In this country we’re already seeing 70 workers killed on job and 37,000 workers seriously injured every year.
