🧵Tradwife culture is moving further into the mainstream. People who watch this film will likely come away with a better sense of the performance, hypocrisy and marketing behind the movement. But, the real issue is the way tradwife content functions as an algorithmic gateway into far-right ideology.

I had heard people at #CHI2026 say that they didn't want AI-generated podcasts to be made on top of their work. While this perspective is totally understandable, I thought the podcasts could potentially be useful. But after looking up one of mine, I can't believe this feature was allowed to launch.
Ever been interested in the AskHistorians behind the scenes? The fantastic @sarahagilbert.bsky.social has drafted up a fascinating post on the data and shared the Community Survey Results! Explore the surveys methods, & dive into the results, in this great thread:

And just like clockwork, the first comment on a survey report I just shared is one of those bots
And James is bang on—bad content drives out good has been AH's mantra for years, but we've always encouraged expressions of gratitude (until the point of clutter). Because we have to question encouraging comments, esp. from new accounts, it's now much more work to keep the sub human AND welcoming.
The study is about websites, but we've observed something similar on @askhistorians.bsky.social where we've gotten an deluge of overly saccharine, "fellow-kids" type bots over the last month. The team bans dozens of these things every day.
Data About Canadians For Canadians. Here's where you can find all of our recent public reports, which provide a snapshot of social media usage trends in Canada and Canadians' attitudes and perceptions towards issues such as AI, misinformation, politics, and privacy. socialmedialab.ca/public-repor...
This study shows that disinformation spreads, not as “false facts”, but as narratives. Compare that to how mis- and disinformation are often operationalized in the big-N quantitative and experimental research in the Nature/Science journals — that’s a major weakness in the field.
I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to …
The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.
It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."

As @wikipedia.org turns 25, what do we learn from Wikipedians about our potential to organize for the common good? Yesterday @sarahagilbert.bsky.social & I gave a main stage talk at Wikipedia’s 25th birthday in NYC on the science of cooperation.

As a scholar of online harassment, I would like to note that betting markets have long been associated with intimidation & threats, and that this has been a problem in sports for a long time. Expanding gambling to more things expands intimidation too.

Amidst overwhelming Epstein revelations, I've heard from many scientists, especially women, about the deafening silence from so many corners. Many ask "how could things be different?"
In this post, I answer with three metaphors, grounded in the science he tried to own

Funnily enough, this is pretty much exactly what I pictured going on behind the scenes when our grant was cancelled last year

⚠️ Despite all the hype, chatbots still make terrible doctors. Out today is the largest user study of language models for medical self-diagnosis. We found that chatbots provide inaccurate and inconsistent answers, and that people are better off using online searches or their own judgment.
Q: Why will football be featured during the Bad Bunny concert?*
A: The Bad Bunny concert is fantastic exposure for the NFL and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put the game of American football in front of fans of the biggest musical artist in the world.
Laying off 1/3 of the post isn't just budget cuts. That's an intentional and willful dismantling of one of the top journalism institutions in the US.
Democracy dies at an empty desk.
This is huge news. I have spent the past 6 months wondering wtf was up with Amazon: they filed 380,000 AI-related CyberTipline reports to NCMEC in the first half of 2025.
Turns out ALL of it was known CSAM they found by screening their AI training data. It's NOT AI-generated or AI-morphed CSAM.
