Honored to receive the GWIC-Braccini thesis prize for 2023 and thankful for the opportunity to share my past and more recent work on NSBH mergers earlier today at #GR24Amaldi16

In this morning’s plenary at #GR24Amaldi16, Amanda Farah introduces the newest (and most massive and likely most rapidly spinning) @ligo.org - @egovirgo.bsky.social - KAGRA event, #GW231123! Read more about this exceptional event in the discovery paper: arxiv.org/abs/2507.08219

3. Financial offers for institutional postdocs are generally quite flexible. Don’t let your decision come down to which position has offered you a bigger research budget. Especially if you have multiple offers, ask for what you want in negotiations!

2. For the other positions that you are still excited about, write to them to say you’ve gotten another offer but you’re still very interested in the position and wondering if they have any updates. If the institution is comparable, name it so they know who they’re competing with!

It makes things complicated for recruiters if they’re considering/making offers to people who aren’t at all interested.

1. Once you get one offer you’re excited about, please write to withdraw your application from other positions that you’re not as excited about. At the very least do this once you’ve accepted another offer.

With Feb 15 (astro deadline) rapidly approaching, here’s a 🧵 of tips and guidelines for folks navigating postdoc offer decisions:

I don’t think they’d be able to justify and defend analysis choices/motivation for the work, but they stand to gain much more from a first-author paper than I do. Who should be first author?

Looking for input on undergraduate paper authorship in astro: I am writing a paper with an undergrad (just the two of us). They’ve performed the full analysis (with significant help and guidance), but I expect final written version of the paper will be mostly my words.

To accompany all those BlueSky science/academia #starterpacks, let’s share introductions to the literature of our fields

Gravitational-wave papers (created with observablehq.com/@guillaume-l...)

When the intro starts "We have opened a new window" you know you can skip a couple of paragraphs

Experience with GW data analysis is not required, but willingness to learn is. Applications from folks with EM follow-up or binary population synthesis experience are strongly encouraged!

Here's the beginning of starter pack for people and groups working on the theory, detection, or analysis of gravitational waves, or whose work is closely related to the field of gravitational waves. Please let me know who I've missed and I'll add them. go.bsky.app/HrAJX35
