Just voted for the new @musicperception.bsky.social board. Though I think most of the candidates will do good things for the society, I was a bit disappointed that so few of the bios listed what they would specifically DO during their term. Yes, great to be more inclusive, but how? C'mon now.

Notes from Beethoven’s genome Wesseldijk et al. compare the genomic information collected from Ludwig van Beethoven with population-based datasets used to quantify musical achievement.

If someone you know buys into claims about "genetic optimization" of embryos using polygenic scores of cognition, just send them our 2024 paper on Beethoven & musicality. We wrote it to help communicate limits of individual-level genetic predictions & complexity of links between DNA & behaviour. 🧪👇

I took a major break from bsky the past year or two, must have missed you following me!

I think one of the the hardest things I've had to get used to with running freelance data consultancy the past year is to not just continually work throughout the day. I just can't context switch quickly and any attempt to do that always results in burnout.

I keep seeing posts saying we need a new word for people who use Chat-GPT for everything: why not Chatlatan?

Remembering David Huron | David John Baker

I never worked with David Huron, but he had a tremendous impact on my life in the world of #musicscience. Wrote this for others in the music cognition community who want to share in his memory.

I can tell it's the end of the year because my body is collapsing, I am getting the end of year cold, and I am finally sleeping for extended periods of time.

Setting up all the infrastructure to run your own business only makes it more apparent that business owners who complain about raising the minimum wage really just should not be in business. I would love to hire people to do work I don't want to do, but you know what, I can't afford that so I won't.

Almost finding blue sky to be too much at the moment given the huge influx. Happy to see everyone here, but damn, could easily start losing a lot of time here if I'm not careful.

Great to see such an uptick in people finally joining bluesky. Wish I had more to say at the moment in the #musicscience space or anything else, especially with so many people now forming a critical mass.

Hello, Bluesky!

I'm hoping to make the transition from X. It's a bit daunting to think of building a new community here, but it's time.

In my next few posts I’ll share examples of content related to my interests: #SonicStrategy #MusicScience #SonicDiversity #SonicBranding

OK, I will try to set it up better this time so other people can actually fix it when it inevitably crashes. Part of me feel like we should just use @tuomaseerola.bsky.social's feed he set up for ICMPC or ESCOM, but I'm drawn to the custom nature of your own feed...

whoops, i would spell it correctly as #musicskyence (typo in first post)

BlueSky for Music Science 101 | David John Baker

think it would just be easier to make a totally new feed with that as the tag and eventually delete the other one. I had it running by just catching all music science related tags davidjohnbaker.rbind.io/posts/2023-0... Though if this is something you're interested in spearheading, please lmk

Thanks for putting this list together and I like the #musicskyance tag. Do you mind if I use that label to re-create a new custom feed for all things #musicscience? I made one about a year ago, let it go defunct after I tried to convince everyone to join bsky, and now have no idea how to fix it and>

Still looking for someone to help me with this dumb custom feed I set up a year or so ago. I patch worked it together, am not a web dev, and would be happy to pay someone to fix this issue at this point because it's such a headache. Any devs out there used to working with custom feeds, please dm me.

Just participated in my first ranked vote, early election since coming back to the USA. Crazy that it's not this easy to vote and pick candidates that align with your values in the other 49 states.

Thank you to everyone reaching out today on account of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. It's difficult to balance my work in chemistry, past life as a jazz pedagogue, and responsibilities as the veterinarian for LSU's live tiger.
