Closeup of Cowboy the Corgi with a wide eyed look
It’s been a wild day. I intended to stay away from the news, but between Kimmel’s (supposed) return and the Tylenol batshittery, it was hard to do.
Cowboy’s expression sums it up.

A huge thanks to my co-authors @anamariab99.bsky.social and Ihsan Yilmaz for all their help!
I am really happy to announce the second paper from my PhD is now out!
The article employs a comparative analysis between US and Turkish based far-right groups, analyzing how constructions of power, efficacy and religiosity modify in-group dyanmics.

A very personal reflection on how the financial crisis at the University of Dundee is affecting PhD students.
Reduced teaching opportunities, financial difficulty and the cutting off of a route to employment.
Thank you Taylor for writing this.
So proud of @danielbarnett7.bsky.social who had his viva today. Congrats Dr Barnett! Many thanks to the examiners Dr Sandra Obradovic and @thia-sagh.bsky.social, and the panel chair @chrisbenwell.bsky.social who made the whole experience so positive! 🎉👏

Brilliant talk by @danielbarnett7.bsky.social at the #Contemporary Histories of Populist Success in Central and Eastern Europe -- A Collaborative Seminar between the University of St. Andrews and Charles University. Now taking questions from the audience! 👏
Things at the University of Dundee are even worse than we @ducuuo.bsky.social thought: 600+ jobs to go to fixa deficit created by an unaccountable management.
Support our strike against this bonfire of research & education in Dundee.

Will definitely have a read through the article!
Great talk by @danielbarnett7.bsky.social
at #SPSP2025 examining themes within far-right communities. Related to work done by Dr. Ian Hawkins examining SIMCA themes within White nationalists YouTube videos published within New Media & Society doi.org/10.1177/1461...

My latest paper from my PhD is now in preprint!
The paper looks at a cross-culutral comparative analysis between an American and Turkish far-right group, and the impact power has on the dynamics of each group. #soicalpsychology #politicalpsychology

I am delighted to say that I have received the Leng Trust Scholarship, which will help fund my attendance at next week's SPSP annual conference in Denver.
I will be presenting my work on Far-Right Online Narratives in Far-Right Spaces, on the panel Pushing the Envelope in Social Identity Theory.
The further you go right ideologically the more out-group threat becomes the sole, salient issue for the group. As a result policy that looks to protect the in-group of "oppressed" white conservatives being pushed is not surprising, often against nebulous out-group elements that are never defined.
It is going well thanks! Currently in the midst of the second of three papers planned for the PhD, so making slow and steady progress, It is always a topic area given its relevance that can seem incomplete in terms of approaches to use/things to examine.

I am a third year PhD student at the University of Dundee looking at far-right online groups, specifically how they mobilize support for political violence, as well as their group structures, strategies and narratives.

I'm in the final year of my PhD studying overconfidence and social media. I also do research on collective action, misinformation and polarisation. Very interested in conspiracy ideation, though not done any research there yet.
