Last but not least, from Ojha et al., findings show that puberty-related changes in mesocorticolimbic functional connectivity are associated with reward and punishment sensitivity differently in male and female early adolescents

Environmental context can shape how our brains function! 🌟New work🌟 led by all-stars @niaberrian.bsky.social and @monicarosenb.bsky.social shows that environmental exposures in youth are reflected in brain networks that keep our attention focused! 🧠🌲

Functional hierarchy of the human neocortex across the lifespan - Nature fMRI data from individuals of a wide range of ages (from a few days to 100 years old) are used to map the key organizational axes of functional connectivity in the human cortex throughout the lifespan...

Check out this @nature.com paper on how the brain’s functional hierarchy evolves from birth to 100. Infants' gradient architecture is anchored by sensory systems, differentiates along association and control axes during childhood/adolescence & dedifferentiates in aging

Do you censor high motion frames in fMRI? In two preprints by @twktan.bsky.social @mandymejia.bsky.social, we find that we may be censoring too much!

doi.org/10.64898/202...
arxiv.org/html/2603.07...

Strict censoring leads to worse personalized TMS targets than no censoring, even with high motion!

We think of white matter as the highways of the brain. But when we followed development along those highways, we were surprised. The journey is more complex than we thought. My final PhD paper, “Two Axes of White Matter Development”, is now out in @natcomms.nature.com! 🛣️🧠✨

Study: Long Breaks Tied to Dip in Cognitive Test Performance - UConn Today A joint UConn - University of Minnesota research study concludes that there may be some reality to the "summer slide" of dips in test scores follo ...

Finding it tough to get back in the swing of things after vacation? You're not alone! Our study found that U.S. adults show lowest performance on cognitive tasks like executive functioning after winter break
Thanks @uconn.bsky.social for this highlight!

This is your brain on Ritalin. Got your attention? Stimulant medications like Ritalin (methylphenidate) do, but not in the way you might think. They don't act directly on the brain’s attention systems! Find out what's really happening in @cellpress.bsky.social. doi.org/10.1016/j.ce...

Very happy to share our paper on the "summer slide" in kid's cognitive test scores is out now in @pnas.org!
We find a replicable dip in performance across multiple domains of cognition in >23,000 kids across 4 datasets!

Check out the 🧵 from @ariellekeller.bsky.social below! 👇

Wow these are both super interesting! We did look at ADHD in one of the datasets in our study. Would be cool to see if there's variation when further split out by those with treatment vs. untreated as well.

We didn't see a significant spring effect in this study, but curious what your hypothesis might be on that!

Our paper on the ☀️ "summer slide" 🛝 is out now @pnas.org!

Summer slide is a replicable phenomenon across diverse datasets that's more than "forgetting" school material in vacation months, but effects of socioeconomic inequality are ➡️ 7x bigger! ⬅️
