Week 4 is “moonlit roost” Wild turkeys roost in trees at night to protect themselves from ground predators. Young turkeys will roost in trees at around 2-3 weeks old, or when they are able, tucked under the protective wings of their mother until they develop more weather resistant juvenile feathers.

Week 2 of #sketchyhabitats2026 “twisted brambles” and these are all birds you’ll find among the brambles, but only one of them is singing its own call. The other three are known, to varying degrees, for their mimicry skills. Mockingbirds, blue jays and brown thrashers are all capable of mimicry.
Harbinger of spring (Erigenia bulbosa) is a member of the Apiaceae family, the same family that brings us parsley. Reported to be in only a few northwestern counties in Georgia, it is nevertheless found in other parts of the US where it is a welcome early sign of spring. (1/2) #nativeplants
Join us! I try to make them open ended and free to personal interpretation of the prompt!

These crabs are native to the Atlantic and Gulf and can often be observed waiting in ambush for prey in shallow, salty waters. There is some evidence that they may have an impact on invasive Green Crab as habitats with higher Blue Crab populations often have lower Green Crab populations!
A digital illustration in the style of a block print with a dark blue crab posed with claws out in a background of brown grasses and teal water.
Week one of #sketchyhabitats creative prompt list is “shallow inlet” and I’ve chosen the Atlantic Blue Crab!
A graphic illustration with the title “sketchy habitats a creative prompt list” which lists dates and prompts for the month of March. 1-7 Shallow Inlet 8-14 Twisted Brambles 15-21 Rocky Underside 22-28 Moonlit Roost At the bottom is says hosted by @9bandedcreative

A photo of a large black and white art print propped up on a chair with handwritten text that reads “100% of proceeds to support South River Art Studios”
I was devastated to hear the news that a fire broke out in @southriverartstudios last week. Artists not only lost their art, they also lost the tools and spaces they needed to continue to create. I am donating the proceeds from the sale of this print I made at a Big Ink workshop hosted by SRAS.
Hey Marietta! Grab a cup, pull up a chair, and chat with Sam.

The best way I can describe why Wikipedia is the optimal model for all of us is that it is a knowledge base that is crowdsourced BY HUMANS with discussions, revisions, moderation BY HUMANS. It is also transperant (we can see who makes edits)
The dumb AI slop is like an opaque synthesis by machines.

A digital drawing of a white bird skull with a long beak outlined in black against an orange background.
Day 2 of #drawingparade2025 “bones”
Any guesses what bird this belongs to?
A digital drawing of a small fluffy bird perched on a branch inside an oval frame with oak leaves. It is drawn in black and white with an orange belly.
Day 1 of #drawingparade2025 is “Wren”
A photo of a large wood block with an image of a bird and a turtle. Two hands are extended to the middle of the block, carving into it.
More progress on my #bigink block. Already have one divett that will need repairing. #printmaking #woodblock
A photo of a giant woodblock with a black and grey design painted it. On top of the block sit two carving tools and a brush. The image on the block depicts a turtle and bird. Part of the design has been carved out.
#bigink progress on my 24 x 36 inch wood block carving!
I’ve started transferring my design for #bigink2025 to the 36x24” wood block! I feel like I’m a little behind on this but it feels good to move onto the physical block so here hoping I build some momentum!
A photo of a pile of holographic stickers. Each sticker has the same image of a possum hissing and the words “please don’t call me bluff”
Slowly, one by one, getting stickers listed on my website.
Tinsel the calico glares at you with a furrowed brow
“I asked chatGPT-“ ok, and I asked Tinsel, and she said you’re an uninspired, vapid dork who needs a computer to think for them.
That turtle 🥹😍
A woodblock print of a restaurant at dusk. The the low building sits in the distance, by a road and surrounded by trees. It has a wide, brightly and warmly lit entrance, contrasting the cool colours of the sparsely clouded sky.

For a while now I've desperately wanted to make a new woodblock print, but I was super nervous lol. I did it though!! Based on a picture of a restaurant at dusk I made when I was in Japan. I'm super happy :))
Thanks!!
A digital illustration of a spotted white moth inset within the outline of a black bat. Behind them is a yellow circle and above them is a cluster of small flying insects.
The same digital illustration, this time in monochrome with just the white moth, black bat, and black insects.
It’s #mothweek and to honor these under appreciated pollinators I’ve illustrated a Giant Leopard Moth in the shadow of a Hoary Bat on the hunt! I may end up carving this into a linoleum block.
A photo of an iPad and Apple Pencil. On the screen is a black and white digital drawing of a bird and a turtle in a waterside scene.
Sketch done for my upcoming #bigink wood block carving!

A digital drawing of a dark, flooded forest on a green background. A boardwalk runs down the middle of the drawing with glowing yellow fireflies scattered through the trees. At the top the words read “Congaree Fireflies”
Recent commission I completed for a t-shirt design! Congaree National Park is home to the incredible synchronous fireflies, who, as the name suggests, flash in unison! Would love to plan a trip to see them one day!
