Moved to see this! Sometimes you feel like a record is kind of a “message in a bottle” and you just don’t know if it will find its way to sympathetic listeners

Also: the last time I went to NYC area for a concert it was to go to that Beherit show in Brooklyn so I guess I am into Finnish musicians
there’s one character (Marketa) who sings in a marked and distinct register that reminded me of Les Mystères de Voix Bulgares but which is apparently rooted in a Finnish ethnic minority folk singing tradition. so there was that.
The music is gorgeous/scary/smoky in that Saariaho manner- and I loved the endlessly rotating set - truly effective as structural emblem of trauma’s then/now temporal smear
Date night: We went with some friends to see Kaija Saariaho’s last opera “INNOCENCE” at the Met
felt great to be in the mosh pit for “No” at the Subhumans show tonight in Baltimore- and fears of nostalgic irrelevance are voided by the fact that crust punk’s hostility to capitalism and religious war makes it the most critically cogent genre on the map four decades in since its birth
You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.
Reading these two simultaneously is giving me the bends
Thrill Jockey coming out with my first LP not with Drew for 10+ years!! Wi John Berndt: CLOUD MACHINES!!
just finished last night / just started today
Thanks for reading, and for the shoutout!
I forgot about the suicide joke in “The Elements of Style”
Saw this pic of Kurosawa and Tarkovsky and immediately thought “Matmos press shot” (the highest possible compliment to @lordchiefjustice.bsky.social and @drewdaniel.bsky.social imho)
Cheers!🥂

Feeling, er, mixed emotions as our cat just leapt into our bed happily displaying for us the still very much alive mouse that she is holding in her jaws - yelling ensued
Nine years ago we got married at a Towson courthouse - we were already two decades deep as a couple so not that big a deal to get the state involved but it is a way of marking time - I love, you, Martin!
sorry to sound like a sap but seeing a young composer and student orchestra build and play something this ambitious and great reminds me not everything has to be fascist and stupid and ugly and destructive
some stunningly ambitious and beautiful music going on here- a 47 piece orchestra and 6 dancers and a slide projectionist / animator interpreting Calvino’s text - composed by Marcus Hart - one to watch!
To any Democrat who ever said about any issue, "Maybe if we agree with Republicans just this far, they'll stop there," remember that you were wrong, it was obvious at the time, and you really should never believe that again about any issue, ever.

My favorites are “Adnos I - III” and “Trilogie de La Mort”- each of them are three hour long continuous arcs / trips, so set aside the time and let it happen
R.I.P. Éliane Radigue, one of the most innovative and radical composers of our century- if you haven’t heard her music yet, prepare for something simultaneously delicate and oceanic. I don’t love the word “genius” but she deserves it.
Cheers! Glad you’re feeling it!

Sorry to gush but this panel on “Our Minor Poets” was so fun! Great conversations about Chidiock Tichborne, Bathsua Makin, Michael Drayton, Eleanor Davies, Katherine Philips, public/private and manuscript/print distinctions- delightful turnout and smart questions in q+a
My Lord Chief Justice, speak to that vain man.
It’s a name to conjure with!
tbh I’m mostly cheerleading for “minority” as I think about anthology construction, then and now ( but to answer your question Chidiock Tichborne and Bathsua Makin make appearances )
greetings to all who are headed to #RenSA26 ! I will be taking part in these two sessions on poetry and queer studies respectively- and hope to cross paths with simpatico early modernists- I’ll be the one feverishly buying too many books 📚
