Agreed. Just one more thing: Taking the "extra step" to achieve Passive House status is (by far) not as difficult as is often claimed: It's a matter of know-how and experience. Once implemented, it's actually quite simple. (Good airtightness is the core example—PH makes implementation achievable.)

Unlocking the Missing Middle: Why the U.S. Housing Model Needs a Redesign Gensler is a global architecture, design, and planning firm with 57 offices and 6,000+ professionals across the Americas, Europe, Greater China, and APME.

"We need a cultural shift. We have to reimagine what good housing looks like — and recognize that compact, well-designed, community-oriented housing in walkable neighborhoods isn’t a compromise. It’s the goal."

Montana's Housing Miracle Strikes Twice | Sightline Institute Bipartisan efforts won a string of bills for more homes, lower costs, and less red tape for Montanans—with lessons for other states.

Montana is leading the nation on pro-housing policy — but not by accident.

Reading this great thread from a campsite near St George, Utah thank you @holz-bau.bsky.social
There are pockets here of great bike infrastructure-so much potential to NOT sprawl out, if going ‘up’ were considered.

The new robotic living lab by Bennetts Associates delivers it all 👏🏽. #strawhouse #strawbuilding. Typically you'd expect all sorts of excuses to build with status quo materials, not here.

Nice! Is this similar to 'DLT' dowl-laminated-timber, or would the fastener system be considered unique/diff?

SCL Straw-Bale House / Jimmi Pianezzola Architetto Completed in 2016 in Vicenza, Italy. Images by Alberto Sinigaglia. The project reveals an idea of architecture based on archetypes as a trend-proof horizon. The archetype for home is shelter. You can ...

Someone was asking me if there is #strawbale building in #Italy. Of course, there is #strawbuilding almost everywhere. Just not yet in the quantity that it replaces highly fossil construction of today. (It could, for a good chunk.)

As a western MT resident that grew up in eastern MT, this is a very welcome report. I would love the option to take a train for business & personal travel in the state, and the potential for tourist train travel is significant (as well as the services that supports those MT ports of call). Bravo!

Building Forward in the Face of Fires Andrew Michler discusses how Passive House building methodologies can improve fire resilience for individual homes and communities, even compared to standard best fire-aware practices.

@andrewmichler.bsky.social wrote this three years ago after the Marshall Fire in Colorado, & considers design elements of passive house that also resist fire and smoke damage:

A modern home in Pacific Palisades survived the fire while all the homes around it burned. It was luck, but also it was made to withstand a wildfire, and it did.

I spoke with the architect who designed it, plus other architects, about designing for disaster: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Seems counterintuitive to talk about #strawbuilding while the climate arsonists in the offices are setting the world on fire?

This is due to Republicans moving to Montana under the spell of Yellowstone’s John Dutton. Montana’s political landscape has changed because newcomers see this state as a place free of regulations—an imagined libertarian cowboy lifestyle. We’ve gone from purple to red because of western mythology.
