Regenerative Metropolis ‘25: #passivehouse as the Foundation to System Integration, Friday September 26 in #NewYork #NY @NYPassiveHouse
I’ll be sharing about a recent LSA strawpanel project

Agreed. Just one more thing: Taking the "extra step" to achieve Passive House status is (by far) not as difficult as is often claimed: It's a matter of know-how and experience. Once implemented, it's actually quite simple. (Good airtightness is the core example—PH makes implementation achievable.)
My starter pack for #PassiveHouse powerhouses and pioneers on BluSky. Waiting for more to join!

"We need a cultural shift. We have to reimagine what good housing looks like — and recognize that compact, well-designed, community-oriented housing in walkable neighborhoods isn’t a compromise. It’s the goal."

Reading this great thread from a campsite near St George, Utah thank you @holz-bau.bsky.social
There are pockets here of great bike infrastructure-so much potential to NOT sprawl out, if going ‘up’ were considered.
Life cycle analysis with emissions and carbon storage shown.
Homegrown timber frame
Straw insulated panels
Homegrown timber, straw, screw foundations, robots. Whole life cycle analysis.
The new robotic living lab by Bennetts Associates delivers it all 👏🏽. #strawhouse #strawbuilding. Typically you'd expect all sorts of excuses to build with status quo materials, not here.

Thank you @phnetwork.bsky.social for sharing our first PH project in Bozeman, MT completed in 2019
Nice! Is this similar to 'DLT' dowl-laminated-timber, or would the fastener system be considered unique/diff?
Photo of volunteer cyclists of the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps posing on Mammoth Hot Spring's Minerva Terrace in Yellowstone National Park, 1896. The 8 cyclists were Sgt. Dalbert P. Green, Cpl. John G. Williams, Pvt. John Findley, Pvt. Frank L. Johnson, Pvt. William Proctor, Pvt. William Haynes, Pvt. Elwood Forman, and Musician William W. Brown.
The U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps was an all-Black unit of soldiers created to see if bicycles could effectively transport troops. In 1896, the Corps did a test run from Missoula, Montana to Yellowstone National Park, where this photo was taken.

Someone was asking me if there is #strawbale building in #Italy. Of course, there is #strawbuilding almost everywhere. Just not yet in the quantity that it replaces highly fossil construction of today. (It could, for a good chunk.)

As a western MT resident that grew up in eastern MT, this is a very welcome report. I would love the option to take a train for business & personal travel in the state, and the potential for tourist train travel is significant (as well as the services that supports those MT ports of call). Bravo!
The background is a rendering of a house, Sunflower Sanctuary, designed by Shape Architecture and located in Colorado. The next says "Fire Smart Building, Wildfire Resilience with Passive House."
Fire Smart Building and Passive House make an ideal pair. Check out a list of ways that Passive House can make your buildings more wildfire resilient: passivehousenetwork.org/featured/fir...
@andrewmichler.bsky.social wrote this three years ago after the Marshall Fire in Colorado, & considers design elements of passive house that also resist fire and smoke damage:

A modern home in Pacific Palisades survived the fire while all the homes around it burned. It was luck, but also it was made to withstand a wildfire, and it did.
I spoke with the architect who designed it, plus other architects, about designing for disaster: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Ecococon wall modules with sone data, like 120min Fire Resistance at a density of 110kg/m3 and passive house level of insulation.
Seems counterintuitive to talk about #strawbuilding while the climate arsonists in the offices are setting the world on fire?
Brace yourself for a reality check. Straw panel from ecococon.eu

'straw bale anchor' made for fast straw bale wrapping of houses. Perfect to turn unloved ugly industrial buildings into modern #passivehaus climate positive social housing for good urbanism.
And no this is not unsafe. 😉

This is due to Republicans moving to Montana under the spell of Yellowstone’s John Dutton. Montana’s political landscape has changed because newcomers see this state as a place free of regulations—an imagined libertarian cowboy lifestyle. We’ve gone from purple to red because of western mythology.
That big ol roof over the garage is now hosting solar power!

Whoa—the Montana Supreme Court holds that its state constitution protects the right to "a stable climate system," and strikes down a law that barred consideration of greenhouse gas emissions when permitting new fossil fuel projects. juddocumentservice.mt.gov/getDocByCTra...
