Great pics, Amy π.
Aw, thanks so much Brigit. I'm delighted you enjoyed it & very grateful for your recommendation. π
Very pleased to see that Wild Pavements was chosen as Book of the Month in the May 2026 issue of Bird Watching Magazine π. #urbanbirds #urbannature #1stbookdiary
Very grateful for this lovely review of my book π
I'm leading a FREE Wild Pavements plant hunt as part of the Books in the Park festival in Beckenham Place Park, S London. Saturday 25 April at 11:30. Details and how to register for a place here π www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/exploring-... #urbannature #pavementplants #urbanplants
Fun book promo things... How often do #pavementplants & #urbannature get talked about on local radio? Not enough imo, but Robert Elms' fab BBC Radio London show helped redress this last weekend, when I popped over to Broadcasting House for a chat (about 2hrs in) . www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
& thanks so much for your Stateside support. Honoured to see my book next to lovely George's... who appears in mine! π
I'm honoured to be leading this relaxed early evening Wild Pavements walk for the @linneansociety.bsky.social in June. Do register for your place asap as numbers will be limited. More details in Eventbriteπ #urbannature #pavementplants
& you too, Brigit π
They look amazing, Brigit. π #justifiablyproudmum
Unbelievably exciting! I'll be chatting to Robert Elms on BBC Radio London this Saturday 28 March at midday about all things Wild Pavements and #urbannature πwww.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p001d7kb/epis...
Thanks so much for flagging this, Jo. #MyBookintheWild #urbannature
So looking forward to chatting to #urbannature legend, David Lindo @theurbanbirder.bsky.social for the "In Conservation with..." series Thurs 26 Mar 7pm, about our tenacious & gorgeous #pavementplants & the stories behind them. FREE to join here π www.theurbanbirderworld.com/tub-webinars...
Yes, sorry not to catch up with you, Nic, but loved your event & would be delighted to have a pavement walk with you anytime ππ. Do let me know when you're next in London x
A lovely photo by inspiring @concretebotany.bsky.social of a Fleabane I'm not familiar with. We've several Fleabane species from the Americas growing as #pavementplants in Britain, but I don't think we have this one yet!? @bsbibotany.bsky.social
And as well these & other plants being lovely in their own right, they provide food & habitats for a range of invertebrates... like this gorgeous Dark-edged Bee-fly sunning itself on a stone. Looks harmless enough, & it is to us but it does parasitizes other species of solitary bee. #urbannature
There's white-flowered Rue-leaved Saxifrage & mauve-flowered Ivy-leaved Toadflax... #pavementplants #urbannature
But while most others are enjoying the picturesque Dorset landscape, I'm looking down at my feet, and there's lots to see. Tiny #pavementplants have found a roothold between the stones on my favourite sort of pavement. #urbannature
Spent a lovely weekend at the Shaftesbury Book Festival listening to fab talks by @nicolawriting.bsky.social @guyshrubsole.bsky.social @drmjwarren.bsky.social & @lucylapwing.bsky.social. The event was close to one of the most recognisable streets in Britain - Gold Hill. & this is the usual view. π§΅
Last weekend I co-led a delightful London Bird Club walk at Beddington Farmlands, one of London's bird record hotspots & one of my favourite urban patches. This - my first Little Ringed Plover for the year - was voted #BirdoftheDay, but a Firecrest was a close 2nd #UrbanNature #UrbanBirds
Chuffed to see Wild Pavements reviewed in Chris Schuler's lovely substack newsletter. #urbannature #naturewriting #1stBookDiary cjschuler.substack.com/p/wild-about...
Looking forward to meeting members of this network tomorrow to talk about my book, Wild Pavements, & what #naturewriting might have to offer for communicating some fundamental principles of #ecology. You can register free using link below π
Had the most amount of fun at @stanfordstravel.bsky.social last night for the launch of Wild Pavements, with lovely folk, who are either already #urbannature #pavementplants enthusiasts or hopefully open to being converted πππ. (Pic credits: Jen Jones & Sarah Jackson - thnx)
I enjoyed it so much, & very grateful for @bsbibotany.bsky.social's enthusiasm and support.
Thank you Brigit π... I hope you enjoy it. x
...but as we've learnt elsewhere, eg. #Crossnessnaturereserve, there can be no let up in vigilance, particularly where our #urbangreenspaces are concerned. #urbannature (Photo credit: Ralph Todd)
So pleased to hear that #WarrenFarm has officially received Local Nature Reserve status, & props to the local groups who've achieved this. #urbannature @brentriverpark.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
#Toad heroes like @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social's hubby feature in my new book, Wild Pavements. Sadly #toads are relatively scarce in London so it's even more essential we care for them. #urbannature #urbanwildlife
