Almost back home after an amazing 12 days in Mpala, Kenya, teaching our MSc field course. So much life.
Learning about the biodiversity of Mpala in Kenya, with the @liverpooluni.bsky.social MSc Global Change Ecology and Evolution course. Just found this handsome leopard tortoise in our camp.
Early spring on Ynys Mรดn: Lesser celandine, common whitlow grass, sunlight in Bryn Celli Ddu.
New #OpenAccess work by @pierretichit.bsky.social, @waynedawsoneco.bsky.social et al. in #RESInsectConsDiv found continued expansion of invasive #carabids across elevation and habitats on sub-#Antarctic South Georgia.

A Norfolk Winter Solstice.
It's that time of year when I'm frustrated by being asked to review multiple papers, but I don't have my own papers written and submitted ๐ฌ
One of multiple S hemisphere plants in GB that we would like a talented PhD student to study! See link for funded NERC ACCE+ PhD opportunity at Liverpool: www.findaphd.com/phds/project....

Climate niche analysis predicts 2,554 potential new alien vascular plant species could invade the Arctic, emphasising urgent need for biosecurity and monitoring under climate change.

As usual, @markavery.bsky.social has it right. Things are not getting better for our wild plants
The 20-year efforts of #BSBImembers & the botanical community gave us #PlantAtlas2020, which provides the evidence base for much of this #GBRedList assessment.
Your #botany records make a difference!
Fair, though climate match is unlikely to explain everything: need to consider the 'failed' introductions from said climates too. Thanks for reposting!

Pirri-Pirri Bur, Pampas grass, Wireweed: all plants from the S Hemisphere that are establishing in the UK. Can we explain current and predict future invasions by S Hemisphere plants? Apply for this NERC ACCE+ PhD project to find out: tinyurl.com/374ty2b7
Please Repost! @acce-dla.bsky.social
A windy, raw, but sunny day in and above Hope Valley, the Peak District.
Donated.
So true

And then, some plants appeared.
This might be science, or science fiction, in the making.
Well done Dan!
Hi @ukladybirds.bsky.social, this should be of interest.
Controversial opinion: many scientists (probably a majority) are terrible at conversation. Conversation is an art. It requires listening and not simply talking when and however much one wants.
A lovely encounter with a New Zealand Fantail on Banks Peninsula. Very cute.
Alison got first prize for her poster on Bermuda's invader-dominated communities at EMAPI 2025. Well done! @bda-biodiversity.bsky.social
Accompanied by a great talk by @bda-biodiversity.bsky.social on her huge survey effort to study invader-dominated plant communities in Bermuda.
And Alison won first poster prize! Well done.
