Today we report that an engineered skin bacterium, swabbed gently on the head of a mouse, can unleash a potent antibody response against a pathogen. Could lead to topical vaccines that are applied in a cream. @djenetbousbaine.bsky.social led the charge... @natureportfolio.bsky.social 1/55

Working on my end-of-year analysis for public health and came across this shocking statistic:

The percent of Ameircans vaccinated for the flu has dropped from 67% in 2019 (pre-COVID) to 38% today.

Influenza has been a leading cause of death in America almost every year since at least 1980.

This show took the concept of work-life balance to a whole other level & left me unsure of how to answer questions from students & junior faculty about how they can achieve work-life balance in academic medicine… looking forward to season 2 for some answers!

Intro time! I'm Hind, a mucosal #immunologist working in KU Leuven on mast cells in health and in gut disease.
Speaking of, I can finally show what I have been working on for the last 4 years, ie characterizing human mast cells in layers of the colon via scRNAseq

Noor (@noorpratap.bsky.social) has been working on this for quite some time! It took a bit of work to figure out, but now you can map your scATAC-seq reads directly to the genome and sort and dedup them with alevin-fry-atac. You get a BED file with counts ready for downstream analysis! 1/
