The removal of a transgender reference from the National Park Service’s Stonewall website wasn’t done by NPS staff. Elon, care to elaborate?

Sadly, the meter constraints of If You're Happy And You Know It don't allow for a full typology of all barges. Perhaps I need to collaborate with a musician to compose something BIGGER

Today's echologia, sponsored by weeks of studying C&O Canal watercraft:

If it doesn't have a mast step, it's a barge
If it doesn't have a mast step, it's a barge
Oh if the wind can't blow it
Then you probably have to tow it
If it doesn't have a mast step, it's a barge

There is a lot of talk about blue states resisting, etc. and this educator would humbly suggest that this is not the way forward.

I refuse to leave our people in red states behind. The Civil Rights Movement came from the Deep South. Red state progressives are some of the hardest working activists.

2/2 🧵Her communication was full of vitriol, paranoia, and spelling mistakes. She's petty, reactive, and undereducated for her position. It was obvious from literally a thousand miles away. Just in case you needed another reason to call your representatives about a confirmation hearing.

1/2 🧵 Once upon a time I was a BBB investigator. I worked with many state AG offices through standardized channels for pretty basic information. Pam Bondi was the only AG to communicate with me personally. She did so with no apparent reason other than to be trifling.

Trump Guts Key Aviation Safety Committee, Fires Heads Of TSA, Coast Guard The committee will technically continue to exist, but it won't have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports.

only appropriate political response here is to demand the white house explain how its actions aren’t responsible www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

Tomorrow and for many months to come, I'll get back to getting angry and fighting. For tonight, my city is happy and so am I. #GoBirds

Several years ago l invited a Buddhist monk to speak to my Senior elective class, and quite interestingly, as he entered the room, he didn't say a word (that caught everyone's attention). He just walked to the board and wrote this: "EVERYONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WORLD, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP MOM DO THE DISHES." We all laughed. But then he went on to say this to my students:
"Statistically, it's highly unlikely that any of you will ever have the opportunity to run into a burning orphanage and rescue an infant. But, in the smallest gesture of kindness -- a warm smile, holding the door for the person behind you, shoveling the driveway of the elderly person next door -- you have committed an act of immeasurable profundity, because to each of us, our life is our universe."

Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

Anyone else feel unsuccessful when you're not socializing at an academic conference but also overwhelmed by catching up with so many people in your field? I'm not built for conference life.

Made a trip down to South Philly to see her one more time. Not all ships need to be materially preserved for their legacy to endure.

I forgot that I renamed all of the Word heading options on my office computer to lyrics from the Isley Brothers' "Shout" and now I'm struggling to differentiate between 3 "a little bit softer now" subheadings

The trees know, dude. Not in the same way we might, but in the way they are as much stardust as we all are, in their remarkable witnessing of time, in their inherent stretch toward a star and gaze always cast simultaneously to the ground and the sky. I know trees, and the trees know.

I made a Historical Archaeology (and adjacent historians in some cases) starter pack! This is a trickier niche group, because that term means different things in different places. This one has lots of room, so let me know if you'd like to be added! 🧪🏺

Today, little tubes of mud. Next week, slides of fossil pollen that will help me reconstruct the impact of maritime construction on colonial landscapes and start collaborating on solutions to address centuries of environmental change in the time of climate crisis. 1/
