Time and again, successful resistance to Trump’s authoritarianism comes from ordinary Americans putting their actual bodies on the line, when institutional leaders can’t even deign to use strong language.

The images coming out of Iran are heartbreaking.

Security forces have killed so many protesters. We’re talking thousands. Maybe tens of thousands.

Zohran Mamdani, the first South Asian Muslim Mayor of NYC, quoted Jawaharlal Nehru's 1947 Independence Day speech in his Nov 4, 2025, victory speech, "...when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance." Totally insane and wildly dangerous. Children will die, and Florida will export communicable diseases to the rest of the country and the world.

I can see that there is a greater need for reason-based perspectives on the anxieties that characterize democracy today. I suggest that Hobbes has the resources to help us distinguish between reasonable and unreasonable anxieties, a task exceedingly difficult in the struggle between power and truth.

Reflecting on the past six months of a democratic government that came to power, whipping up anxiety over jobs, inflation, immigration and assumed authoritarian powers to keep not just the American people, but the global economy and the world in a continuous state of anxiety over tariffs, migration

Rep. Stansbury: The system is rigged
Rep. Stansbury: The system is rigged YouTube video by Rep. Melanie Stansbury

The system is rigged.

After scamming the American people out of healthcare, food, and educational assistance two weeks ago to fund tax breaks and boondoggles for billionaires—Trump and the GOP are now trying to rig the system to deregulate crypto.

Imo we have a system of grace and forgiveness for the rich and powerful and merciless, arbitrary harshness for most other people

I've said it many times before and Andrew Cuomo is making me say it again: we don't have a cancellation problem. We have never had a cancellation problem. To the contrary, we have a problem that "disgrace" is a very temporary embarrassment— an brief entr'acte more than an intermission.

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the false narrative that we should be more concerned about a poor person misusing the welfare system or an immigrant being here illegally than we are about the ultra wealthy abusing the system and cruel people having unchecked power over all of us.

The biggest reason government officials aren't giving any specifics about the criteria by which these arrests and deportations are selected, is that the criteria is "pro-Israel think-tanks and advocacy organizations created lists of troublesome individuals and gave them to us."

Bernie has been a very good opposition figure in 2025, but at this late date he's not suddenly going to become better on immigration than he's always been, and he's always been mediocre on it.
