Cost to human life from our President’s unpopularity supported war?
Devastating and I hate it.
Selfish smug desire for the American public to come to grips with oil dependence and look at EVs again?
Off the charts. 📈
Really enjoyed this quick pod with @gaytonausa.bsky.social + @maxpatten.bsky.social on Directly Current last night on my drive down to San Diego. Hits the quick points of what the current Canada moment could mean pca.st/episode/03b7...
Nice @nytimes.com 🇺🇸
Top of NYT homepage: “Man Killed by Federal Agents in Minnesota Was Holding a Phone, Not a Gun”.
Incredible headline.
Yeah but it won’t come to the states 🥲
You tell em, Liz. X is violating Apple and Google policies but exists still because Elon has no accountability. We’re all worse off for it. Fuck the creeps using Grok for demented things.

I like the car but compared to what Zeeker is doing on the same platform in China it seems very behind on the tech
Yeah their reliability record hasn’t been great (mostly their gas trucks)
@hankgreen.bsky.social nailed it: a comprehensive future of EVs is inevitable but in America, with trucks, it will take longer and will probably require an intermediary eREV step. Dealers are not incentivized to sell BEVs. For small cars, SUVs, and anything passenger, EVs already win.
As a subscriber I would fully endorse “ruining Brendan Carr’s SEO” being added the Verge’s next year goals
Mystery solved!

Meanwhile in the bad place
My favorite AI fail yet: Gemini (whose thinking model I’ve generally found to be much nicer than ChatGPT) found a stock image of a diagram when I asked it to visually a very specific concept (Federal Rules of Evidence)
Props for the effort 😂 (and attribution to Getty)
The Flatirons looking particularly stunning this morning

“Use AI to brief cases and study”
I’m glad I trusted my notes (and review of the opinion directly) over ChatGPT 5.1, which confidently told me the opposite holding of a case on appeal to that state’s Supreme Court.
At least it fessed up when I called it out 🤪
The real test will be with a new 2028 administration and the rollout of an affordable EV platform, will Ford have used this time wisely?
Stellantis I have a lot less hope about.
What are they meant to do? Their ICE trucks are their profit center. Theres no pretending anymore and Farley is more honest than most—they are woefully behind on EV now and will happily oversee regulatory rollback while stomaching this kind of shitty rhetoric.
PHEVs are nice in theory but many of them are deeply compromised and even the best ones have their own gremlins that EVs win have to think about. I think 95% of new car buyers are best served with either a full EV or a parallel hybrid
New media is less disclosed and uptight about payola than before. I feel for folks trying to do it right. Worked for TFL for a hot minute when I first moved to Colorado, then Out of Spec, and can confirm that YouTube isn’t an easy business.

Combined with some of the most unforced marketing decisions ever (no hatchback for our market and the confusing 400/800V booster debacle for Supercharging)
“No amount of technology can turn a bad story into a good story.”
CEOs and the tech managerial class could take a lot from this humility. Culture is valuable!

You know what I feel needs more love?
Dr. Sleep (2019)
Ewan McGregor is such a fun presence, and Rebecca Ferguson as Rose the Hat has got to be a horror movie all time villain.

Hmm was “hybrids are best for the environment” argument bullshit after all? I get the need to pander but this is pretty brazen. Take a lesson from Tesla and maybe stay out of politics, Akio?
