A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads:

I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs.
1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702.
2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law.
The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.

I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.

Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.

City Council –
The Mayor has asked that the Congressional Community Appropriations Grant & Automated License Plate Reader Cameras topic currently scheduled for the May 19 SSP and June 15 Council meeting be shifted to later in the year. An exact date is uncertain as we are awaiting confirmation of any deadlines for accepting the congressional grant.
If there are community inquiries on a meeting date for Flock/ALPR cameras, the Clerk's office is happy to add individuals to a notification list. We will then alert those folks of any public meetings on the topic once meeting dates are set.

Update: Flock/ALPR camera meetings previously planned for May/June have been postponed. If you want to stay informed about new dates, email me at kevin.nichols@issaquahwa.gov or our City Clerk to join a notification list. Public feedback is always welcome, even before meetings are scheduled as well.

I know Flock Safety being a dangerous panopticon has certainly landed in the wider culture because CINEMASINS of all channels dropped a reference to it.

Along with passing legislation banning cooperation with ICE, Pittsburgh City Council also passed a resolution to disclose all surveillance technology the city is currently using against citizens.

Jerome County sheriff used Flock cameras to search for wife’s vehicle, documents show Documents obtained by KMVT revealed the sheriff was under investigation leading up to his announcement.

We should probably just call Flock what it is: a tool for misogynists.

Another story on abuse of mass #surveillance data! 😩

"in 'one month‘s time,' the sheriff queried his wife’s license plate number approximately 152 times. His stated purpose was to assess the system’s reliability before a contract decision."

Ban ALPRs! 🚫

Issaquah CM here. Can confirm the city received a grant to buy Flock cameras and will discuss at upcoming public meetings (details below). I’d recommend anyone with opinions in Issaquah reach out to council. I have serious concerns but will save my own comments for the public meetings.

Map of Issaquah, WA overlaid with red icons indicating proposed locations for 19 Flock mass surveillance cameras.

These will indiscriminately capture and store the license plates of every passing vehicle regardless of suspicion.

⚠️ Could #Flock mass #surveillance be coming to #Issaquah soon?

This was pitched to council a year ago, but was awaiting a grant which we're told has now come through.

19 potential entry/exit points will be considered as part of a "pilot program" at an estimated cost of up to $200K per year.

I'm at the town hall event on surveillance in Seattle, where Mayor Katie Wilson is being interviewed onstage by the South Seattle Emerald's Florangela Davila. Read and watch along with me!

We don’t even have a national consumer data privacy law for the same reason: Congress is subservient to Big Tech.

Silicon Valley has clearly expressed they prefer Trump to a democracy in which their power could be contested and their abuses checked. Democrats need to face this reality and fight.

Lawmaker Says the “Kids Online Safety Act” Aims to Protect Kids from “The Transgender” KOSA has bipartisan support but LGBTQ+ advocates say it would be harmful.

And in case there was any room for doubt, the Republican coauthor of KOSA explicitly said she expects and hopes the bill to make it harder for queer people to connect with each other and find out they're not alone (as Katelyn says she did here)

If you give *everyone* privacy, you don't have to scan their driver's licenses first before deciding how much privacy to offer them.

“The fact that they didn’t take the cameras down shows that we are the product,” Diaz said. “They were never really selling to us in the first place. What they are doing is selling to much bigger agencies the ability to spy on a ton of people.”

“If the Berkeley Police Department was looking to hire a police officer who had the kind of track record Flock has — had been fired from multiple institutions, there are credible allegations of a lack of confidentiality — I don’t think they would hire Flock,” Saginor said.

The Deal has been Altered Further: Flock Publishes New Terms Flock's terms got worse. All of them. The new terms add perpetual data licenses, mandatory Georgia arbitration, and potential constitutional problems for every city that signs.

If you haven't, we would recommend reviewing the recent updates Flock made to its terms of service.

Might be worth asking your elected officials if they have seen these updates.
