The Self-Driving Codebase Background agents and the next era of enterprise software delivery.

I have started experimenting with background agents. Agents that work in isolated infrastructure with well thought boundaries and responsibilities. First results are very encouraging. Inspired by background-agents.com

All Software Engineering Is Knowing When To Stop Toni Morrison once said: “All art is knowing when to stop.”

AI didn't break engineering. It showed us how little engineering some teams were actually doing. silot.substack.com/p/all-software-engineering-is-knowing #ai #coding

Turns out building a multiplayer browser game is the easy part. Getting anyone to play it is the actual game. Still very rough but let me know if I’m on the right track polygo.io #webgames #gamedev

A wise old owl lived in an oak, The more he saw the less he spoke,
The less he spoke, the more he heard,
Why aren't we all like that wise old bird?

I don’t think it will matter if you’re junior or senior dev in the future but if you’re willing to have a symbiotic relationship with the AI going forwards where you can use it to augment your skills.

As a leader, changing your mind based on new data is accepted, but as a politician, you will be called a 'flip-flopper.' In this article, I try to investigate why this is the case. open.substack.com/pub/silot/p/... #leadership #politicians #decisions #opinions

With AI coding assistants the need to understand and interpret code is outstripping the need to write code. #ai #coding

From a young age we are told to treat people the way we want to be treated. George Bernard Shaw said "Don't treat others the way you want to be treated. They might like different things than you do."

With AI coding tools I switched from writing code to doing code reviews. The irony #ai #coding #tools

If you provide AI coding tools only functional instructions the code quality is not great. But if you also provide non functional, architecture characteristics, design patterns etc the quality is actually pretty good and the code maintainable. #ai #coding #tools

I am taking a new approach with AI code tools. Instead of me reviewing the code they generate, I ask the tools to review the code I write. This way there were many better solutions suggested than what I had in mind and I also learned something new. #ai #code #tools

Really impressed by how much Amazon Q Developer has improved especially the cli version. If you know what you what and what you’re doing it can really speed up development. I wouldn’t recommend it to non technical people though #amazon #q #developer

SpeedCurve | Six things that slow down your site's UX (and why you have no control over them) But don't worry. Here are some solutions.

How real folks outside our tech bubble use the web:

Did you know the most powerful force for climate action is LOVE—for our children, their future, and the world they’ll inherit?
