Congratulations to FORTCAST, ATS’ very own student-run AMS student chapter, for winning 1st place in the Student Chapter Poster Contest at the AMS 2026 conference! So proud of the hard work FORTCAST does to help make ATS the great department that it is! 👏

New particle formation research is bananas! 🍌 ATS student Hannah Grace Marti gave an awesome talk on using Lagrangian analyses for better understanding new particle formation (NPF) during the Houston TRACER-MAP campaign!

NPF is usually studied with a stationary perspective, but this often does not capture the full picture. Marti discussed “banana plots”, or a curve shape that is observed when NPF initiates and aerosols grow with time.

AMS reception night was a blast! First, I headed up to CSU’s reception and talked with some prospective students. Then, I visited UIUC’s reception and got to see my undergrad research advisor, Dr. Nicole Riemer for the first time since graduating!

9/18 Drought Update 🌵: We saw more beneficial precipitation last week, which prompted widespread improvements in western and southern Colorado in this week's US Drought Monitor. Good news for now, but we'll need additional moisture to continue chipping away at those longer-term deficits.
