Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!
Students, faculty, and alumni in the Atmospheric Sciences Program attended the 106th American Meteorological Society Meeting in Houston, TX last month. Students presented posters showcasing summer internships and networked with professionals in the field. #AMS2026 #networking 🌡️⛈️🌪️🌈

Two of my students won awards at #AMS2026! Mia Smith (@maliyah-wx.bsky.social, current URA) won an Outstanding Student Poster award in the Student Conference. Lindsey Peterson (former URA) won 1st prize in the Societal Applications Symposium student poster competition. I'm super-proud of them both!
How can an already hot city like Houston, Texas, cope with the growing heat-safety challenges of urbanization and climate change?

⚡️🌤️🌎The weather & climate enterprise is changing fast. Between the rise of 🧠💻AI & 📲social media, the changing landscape of how we receive, perceive, & use forecast info is both exciting & daunting. I sat down with @nws.noaa.gov director Ken Graham at @ametsoc.org #AMS2026 to learn more.
If you were at #AMS2026 and were present for the emergency town hall regarding NCAR, remember the words “pain is coming” to NCAR?
The transition of the Cheyenne Supercomputer Center to a third party is such a devastating blow.
At #AMS2026, Tom Fahy said to expect pain with respect to NCAR.
It’s only going to get worse.
I’ve never seen a government so consistently try to make things incrementally worse.

☔️⚡️#AMS2026 The one where we all almost didn’t make it ❄️☃️ this ain’t Texas! 🤠🌮
It truly wouldn’t be a weather conference without weather headaches, not enough pictures, but amazing friends & loads of science! @ametsoc.org conference is always my favorite way to kick off a new year! #AMS2026

Why not watch both? Online access is now available for all attendees 📽️

I’m filled with so much gratitude it’s hard to even put it into words 🥲 2025 marked a decade in TV for me. A decade living in 4 different states, countless hours on-air covering extreme weather, & countless stories & field reports to make the climate crisis more relatable. #AMS2026
Senior Zoe Barajaz presented research on boundary layer climate trends using radiosonde data at #AMS2026 last week! Amazing 🤩
What a week at #AMS2026 in Houston! One thing was clear — the enterprise is hungry for strong, sustained advocacy that articulates the immense value of the enterprise to the nation and promotes policies that optimize the contributions of its diverse members.

Any word on if there is an #AMS2026 plague this year? I've seen few to no comments on leaving AMS sick, which would be kind of a minor miracle. (I'm not sick, I'm just genuinely curious)
Again this year, im too far north for snow?! #mdwx
coming back from #AMS2026 we noticed whole lanes missing on the roads 5 days after the sleet invasion. Also its so cold we need to limit water use cause watermain breaks.
Encouraging to say the least, and despite the fact that many from the NWS could not go to #AMS2026.
The reason why I was at #AMS2026 this week: To talk about our 24x7 Jersey Shore Streaming Weather Channel!

And with that, my time at #AMS2026 has come to an end! Thank you for following along with me and for reading my attempts at boiling down some hardcore atmospheric science. Goodbye for now! ☺️

We’re home after a great trip to Houston for #AMS2026. Lots of good conversations, presentations, and posters.
We’re looking forward to August when you’re all in our hometown for the #AMSMadisonSummit!
I wonder if we might host a little get together. 🤔
An appropriately nerdy way for a boundary layer meteorologist to return home from #AMS2026. It was a wonderful week learning about outstanding science!

On the last day of AMS, I saw this excellent talk given by ATS student Phoebe Lin on “Investigating Smoke Transport and Anvil Microphysical-Radiative Processes within Pyrocumulonimbus Storms”!

I have no idea what the rest of 2026 is going to throw, but I have 20+ of the best in the game to ride it with.
Love y'all @ametsoc.org @amsearlycareer.bsky.social 💙💚 #AMS2026

As the final part of our AMS journey, ATS student Daniela Guevara Proaño and I gave poster presentations about a field campaign we both helped out with last summer, the Front Range OZone Éxperiment (FROZÉ)! 🚗☀️

It’s been real Houston…but time to go home 🇨🇱
