Congrats! And it looks like the Irish weather cooperated too

I couldn't possibly comment 😀 🍪
A plate piled high with dark brown biscuits containing chunks of chocolate and topped with bright white flecks of salt.
A classic sharer for the @ddc-sdu.bsky.social offices today: browned butter chocolate chip biscuits with flakey sea salt. Crispy on the edges and soft in the middle (strangely like the paper I’m supposed to be revising). #poliskybakes
Also, @elizabethjevans.bsky.social told me this used to be the ‘mid-career’ award when she won it. Does that spirit now make me ‘mid’ (in both senses) despite the name?! 🫣
Thanks @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social for the award, and particularly for recognizing mentoring in the citation! I’m increasingly of the view that we shouldn’t just be leading folks to the right doors for them and their careers: we should, where possible, pitch in to help open them too.

Slight first day of school vibes for my @ddc-sdu.bsky.social visit, complete with packed lunch
Also, the @ddc-sdu.bsky.social post accurately reflects the correct order of things as they arose during the talk.
I mean, at this rate, I really will have to open up that cafe+bakery! Thanks @ddc-sdu.bsky.social for the warm welcome, and for letting me talk about the politics of charts based on @jeppjournal.bsky.social work with @justynabandola.bsky.social @sotiriagrek.bsky.social: doi.org/10.1080/1350...
Huge thanks to @rsenninger.bsky.social @winniexia.bsky.social @muzhou-zhang.bsky.social for organising this wokshop which was full of top-notch feedback generously delivered. I certainly learned a lot and am looking forward to all the great work on info and learning that's bound to come from this!
This has implications for staffing, as we (@ralphscott.bsky.social @lawrencemckay.bsky.social) point out in our new @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social jobs report. In politics/IR, changes in student numbers and subsequent staffing are reasonably related. www.psa.ac.uk/resources/ac... #polisky #academicsky

I love me those non-causal actors, with their descriptions and happy avoidance of consequences 😉
Cheers, Florian! We’re exploring these kinds of outreach/network events in the migration area for @migrationjrnl.bsky.social as there’s lots of need + potential. And later I’d be curious about yours & @mcchacha.bsky.social view on the BA workshops to achieve this. I’ve admired the scheme from afar!
A great effort and service to the field by @mcchacha.bsky.social and @floriangkern.bsky.social! With my editorial hat on, more journals should be thinking about how they can support the pipeline of research coming to them. Intervening in these kinds of ways also helps build better & wider networks.

We published a report that used web archives, email digests, and university staff statistics to track the UK academic job market in political science and IR since 2012. It’s part of a broader problem we need to address w/ structural solutions without losing sight of its personal impacts. #polisky
A plate of sliced roast beef, with crispy roast potatoes and caramelised carrots. Green veg sits underneath the beef.
A glass bowl from the side reveals layers of sponge cake, custard, orange fruit, and whipped coconut cream. A cocoa dusted tiramisu dessert is in the background.
Easter lunch: dry brined roast beef with horseradish; roast potatoes; mustard and maple carrots; spring greens; fennel, apple, and chicory salad. Lemon curd, mandarin, and coconut trifle, tiramisu. #poliskycooks #poliskybakes
This is the correct take I’m here for.
It was great to finally meet in person! Looking forward to seeing how these projects develop.
You’re so kind Matthias. I and many others missed you at PSA! Hopefully we meet soon.
Thanks @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social for this recognition which particularly means a lot as someone trying to build a more humane profession and wider acceptance of what counts as 'political' in political science. And special thanks to @tsourapas.bsky.social for the nomination: a role model for all!
That’s a v nice service to the discipline.
Unsurprisingly, the numbers are brutal. Too many things have gone wrong in the past decade. If only we had the institutions with the willingness to change them.

Mid- & senior-level colleagues: if you’re at all concerned about the situation our job market candidates face, or it’s been awhile since you yourselves were applying, read @ralphscott.bsky.social’s summary of our new report. And come to our launch, 12.30 today in Exam Schools (East) #psa26 #polisky
My colleagues at every institution I’ve been at all know that my stress is their baked good.
If you’re on a permanent contract, are hiring postdocs or fellows on the basis of a shiny new grant (hello ERC or UKRI FLF!), advise PhD students, and/or have any sort of say on hiring within your department, you should attend our report launch examining the UK politics/IR job market #psa26
Tomorrow we (@ralphscott.bsky.social @lawrencemckay.bsky.social) are launching a report at @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social #psa26 examining the UK politics & IR academic job market since 2012, using a mix of web archive data, email digests, and public staff statistics. 12.30, Exam Schools (East School)
