The text reads, "The Remote Area Allowance must be raised immediately to support people on the lowest incomes cover high costs in remote Australia."

We call on the Federal Government to urgently increase the Remote Area Allowance so it reflects the real cost of living in remote communities. It is time to lift the rate and ensure it is indexed ongoing so everyone can afford the basics, no matter where they live.

While the Federal Government’s food subsidy scheme has reduced the cost of some essential groceries, the sky-high price of fuel means that many on the lowest incomes still go without because their incomes simply do not cover living costs.

Image is an illustration of fuel prices as they appear on price boards at petrol stations. The first price represents the Remote Area Allowance, which is nine dollars and ten cents per week. The second price represent the price of diesel, which is currently at three dollars and fifty cents per litre.

Beside the illustration, the text reads, "People living in remote areas already experience very high rates of poverty. Extreme fuel communities further behind"

However, this payment is only $9.10 a week for singles and $15.60 for couples (only 1.5% – 2.7% extra in income support).

This amount is not indexed at all and has barely changed since its introduction in 1984.

Image is of a bar graph which visualises the small portion of Remote Area Allowance for a single person as compared to the already low amount of JobSeeker.

Beside the graph, text reads, "The Remote Area Allowance is paid on top of income support payments to help people in remote areas with higher prices, but the payment is not indexed at all and has barely changed since it was introduced in 1984."

The Remote Area Allowance is an additional payment for people receiving income support payments that is supposed to help with remote areas costs.

Image is of a photograph of a remote town in Australia from a distance. It is a small town with low-rise buildings against a backdrop of clear blue sky and stocky rock formations and hills. The town is spotted with yellowing trees and showered in balmy autumn sun.

There is text overlain against the blue sky. The text reads, "Did you know it costs an estimated forty percent more to live in remote areas than in urban areas?"

Did you know it costs about 40% more to live in a remote part of Australia compared with capital cities? From groceries and fuel to electricity, basic essentials are much more expensive for people living in remote communities.

Halving the Capital Gains Tax discount and ending Negative Gearing would raise around $19bn over 4 years to fund tens of thousands of new homes, while improving wealth equity and reducing economic risks.

Halving the Capital Gains Tax discount and ending Negative Gearing would reduce home prices by up to 4%, a similar impact to the government's plan to build 1.2m homes.

Fixing the housing crisis. It's more than building houses. We must curb expensive tax breaks that cause housing prices to soar.

We should halve the Capital Gains Tax discount and end negative gearing to reduce home prices, and redirect the billions spend on tax breaks to build more housing.

The housing Crisis will not be fixed by policies that add demand without boosting supply and drive up home prices.

We need to Curb tax breaks for housing investors that drive up home prices and worsen inequality and increase supply of social housing to meet need.
