Hospitals shouldnât be a place where patients and healthcare workers get infected.
Preventing airborne infections requires system-level protections, not âoptionalâ measures. Because prevention worksâand clean air saves lives.

Experts call for N95s over surgical masks as flu and COVID viruses spread.

Graphic with the text âwhn.globalâ at top left. Headline: âFace masks âinadequateâ and should be swapped for respirators, WHO is advisedâ. Subheadline: âExperts are urging guideline changes on what health professionals should wear to protect against flu-like illnesses including Covidâ. Below is a side-by-side photo: on the left, a man wearing a blue surgical mask; on the right, a person wearing a white FFP2-style respirator and a black hat and scarf, facing each other in profile. Caption under the photo: âSurgical masks, such as the one on the left, which became ubiquitous during Covid, should be replaced by respirators like the FFP2 face mask, right. Bottom text: âThe World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassionâworking together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.â
Graphic with the text âwhn.globalâ at top left. Centered excerpt text reads: âThe WHO has been criticised for being slow to describe Covid-19 as spreading via âairborneâ particles and the letter also calls for it to revisit earlier statements and âunambiguously inform the public that it spreads via airborne respiratory particlesâ.â Next paragraph: âProf Trisha Greenhalgh of the University of Oxford, whose research is cited extensively in the letter and is one of its signatories, said: âA germ that does not get inside someone cannot make them sick. By sealing against the face, respirators force airflow to pass through them, filtering out the airborne germs. Respirators are designed to fit closely around the face and meet high filtration standards. Medical masks, in contrast, fit loosely and leak extensively.ââ Final paragraph: âThe letterâs supporters include members of the World Health Network, prominent US epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding, and Guardian columnist George Monbiot.â Bottom text: âThe World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassionâworking together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.â
World Health Network was featured in The Guardian as experts urge the WHO to update global guidance: surgical masks are inadequate, and respirators should be standard protection in healthcare settings.

Trump just posted this photo of the sharpest minds in our intelligence community hard at work during the Venezuelan operation.

A dark, grainy photo of a family wearing respirators indoors; large neon-yellow pull-quote overlays the scene. Text: âI havenât been sick since 2018. No flu. No colds. No COVID. Six winters. Six holiday seasons.â Smaller body text below: âWhile respiratory viruses moved freely through public spaces, one family quietly opted out. Not by isolating, but by responding accordingly to how these viruses actually spread.â Footer: âThe World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassionâworking together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.â
Black textured background with a large illustration of a cup-shaped N95 respirator at the bottom right; bright yellow quote headline at top. Text: âThereâs a significant difference between a mask and a respirator. A surgical mask is fabric. An N95 filters the air you breathe.â Body text: âPublic messaging blurred this distinction for years. The result was confusion, frustration, and the false belief that âmasks donât work.â Respirators were designed for airborne hazards long before COVID existed. This is basic occupational health, repurposed for everyday life.â Footer: âThe World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassionâworking together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.â
Close-up background of an N95 mask; bold neon-yellow pull-quote across the top. Text: âWhen I put on a mask, Iâm not just protecting my family. Iâm breaking transmission chains that could lead straight to someone whose body canât survive another hit.â Body text: âFor people living with Long COVID, there is no such thing as âjust one more.â Every infection carries a cost their bodies may not be able to pay. Masking in shared spaces is a refusal to accept preventable injury as the price of normal life. We already know how to reduce risk. The only question left is whether weâre willing to act like it.â Footer: âThe World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassionâworking together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.â
Six years without getting sick isnât a miracle. Itâs what happens when airborne problems are met with airborne solutions.
Respirators work quietly, consistently, and without spectacle. For the people wearing them, and for those who canât afford another infection.
@1goodtern.bsky.social:
"It's time to talk about the vax and relax crowd again.
They got their shots, so the virus is now someone else's problem.
But vaccines *reduce* the risks of Covid's long-term harms *without* eliminating them.
The science never said that.
It is just what people chose to hear.
"That's the lie that the vax and relax crowd push.
They are pro vax, but anti science.
And that's as bad as being antivax.
Maybe even worse."
*This is a thread-port of 1goodtern from ExTwitter.*
Weâre only beginning to understand the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2. Prevention still works, and the tools exist â masks, clean air, testing, and policy action. We just have to use them.
