Ettal 💐 Spring School 2026: Deep Dives into Current Concepts in Immunology Hashtag#dgfispringschool
During a week long, intensive course in Ettal, Bavaria, 30 leading speakers and 63 participants from nine countries explored cutting edge immunology.
Through lectures by leading scientists, aspiring young researchers gained deep insight into both innate and adaptive immunity, exploring how NK cells, neutrophils, macrophages, dendritic cells, T cells and B cells defend against pathogens and tumors while shaping immune memory. The talks covered immune regulation, autoimmunity, immunometabolism, complement, innate memory plasticity, cancer reprogramming, and the effects of extreme space conditions, offering therapeutic insights for autoimmune disease and cancer.
Industry partners shared translational insights and practical guidance. Participants benefited from quick “speed dating” panels and poster sessions, sparking idea exchanges and future collaborations.
We thank all speakers, participants, and industrial sponsors for making the event a success and look forward to the next Spring School, scheduled for March 8-12, 2027.

On the balance of knowledge - Nature Reviews Immunology Ruslan Medzhitov shares his thoughts on the balance between generating data and developing theories in immunology, with a focus on exploring the rules that govern complex systems.

I'd like to see this problem analysed at the single cell multi-omics level

Engineering and biofabrication of early cancer models Nature Reviews Bioengineering, Published online: 03 November 2025; doi:10.1038/s44222-025-00371-wEarly cancer biology and detection research is limited owing to a lack of clinical samples from pre-malignant and early-stage tumours. This Review discusses engineered in vitro systems that mimic early disease stages to investigate tumour progression and identify biomarkers for early cancer detection.

CD8 T cells produce IFNg and CXCL13 in TLS

CD8 T cells produce IFNg and CXCL13 in TLS

What mechanisms drive checkpoint inhibitor-associated interstitial nephritis (ICI-AIN)?
In our preprint, we identify CD8 T cells as a central player, inducing a proinflammatory myeloid cell state by IFNg and structuring lymphoid aggregates by CXCL13.
