As someone who was just perusing the Higher Ed job boards today this is so discouraging 😩

Going through the #petgrief tag, reading other people’s stories. My beloved dog passed away on Friday, unexpectedly. It is so hard to think about the fact I will never see him again… never have him beg for food again, or chase his tennis balls, or carry his lamby up to bed with him 💔
The adorable Malayan tapir calf that was born Sunday night continues to nurse and bond with mom behind the scenes. Mom and baby are both doing well and we will announce the sex and name soon. Sound on to hear tiny tapir chirps.
Is there anyone on Bluesky from Tacoma (Washington state) who went to Lowell Elementary School? I did a deep dive on its history and made a website about it here, check it out if you're interested!

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.
Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.
That's true, we do have quite a few of those.
I really wish there were Aldis in the Northwest, I always hear good things about them.
I absolutely did <3

A clear view of Mount Rainier set against a brilliant sunrise
Much better. Remember: Your volcanoes should be icy. Your windshields shouldn't be.
A digitally altered view of Mount Rainier at sunrise, with a layer of frost superimposed over the image. In this image, two strips of ice have been cleared, as if mimicking the act of scraping your windshield.
Almost there.

Driving with an icy windshield is an affront to safety AND to the aesthetic.
Ok but I actually want this book for real 😂
This morning, one-year-old muskox Willow was officially introduced to one-year-old Pretzel in the large Tundra habitat, and it was a success! The adorable duo have been seen grazing and exploring together. Guests can see Pretzel and Willow together in their shared habitat starting today.
Michael!!! You're here!!
Sebastian Stan is a first-time #Oscar nominee.
With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.
This was so funny 😂😂😂
Photo of a medium haired black kitten sitting on a white covered chair, looking upward in an angelic posture.
Important update on my parents’ kitten, Purrcy: he is still very cute.
So much that is created today is born digital. Thanks to those working hard to preserve it all. #digipres

I keep thinking of the incredible work all the #Firefighters are doing right now in LA.

Internet Archive's founder, @brewster.kahle.org, spoke with @wbur.org's Megna Chakrabarti about the lawsuits against the Internet Archive, the importance of archiving the web, and the "constantly renewed mythological goal" of the Library of Alexandria.

A cross stitch of convicted master felon and antagonist of Wallace and Gromit: Feathers McGraw. He is a plasticine penguin, wearing a red rubber glove as a cap to deceive people into thinking he is an innocent chicken when he is in fact a very evil and criminal penguin.
Woke up this morning with this guy on my mind and thought "I simply must cross stitch him" and so, hours later, here he is.
If you are an archivist you should read this. It's so rare to see labor and expertise of archivists acknowledged let alone celebrated that I might have cried a little
