A review quote on an illustration from A Little Halwa And a Big Family. The illustration shows an Afghan mother in the kitchen, reaching out towards her son who is bringing her a a jar of sugar. [text in image] “A Little Halwa and a Big Family serves up a very satisfying read-aloud selection perfect for sharing. Egyptian-Canadian Sahar Abdallah’s textured pastel illustrations on earth-toned craft paper capture the bustling activity in the kitchen.” ~Linda Ludke, Canadian Children’s Book News

An illustration by Bill Pechet from Hare B&B. Harry, a hare in blue overalls and square glasses, is doing a presentation for her seven younger siblings. She is using a pointer to show things on a giant poster explaining a work plan, that assigns tasks to everyone in the family. Other posters show a picture of the room, a media campaign, and a financial plan.

Seven is a LOT of siblings. Luckily Harry’s younger siblings are happy to lend a hand at the B&B.

Read the hilarious story about the importance of a good plan for a family business in HARE B&B.

The illustrations in ALL OF US are extremely charming cardboard and paper collages that all use the same base shape that represents the animal cell.

After they’ve enjoyed the book, your kids can use the form included in the back to make their own animal creations!

[text in image] We'd pass girls picketing everywhere we went. I should say about that, I think. How "girls" was a word we sued for ourselves. It was a word we were proud of, a word that held us together, even though some of us were beyond "girls" when it came to age. Reen, of course, but all sorts of others. Still, there were so many of us that were younger. Me. Angelika, Rebekkah, Paolina, Rachele. So many of us that were not even twenty yet. And how else would we call ourselves" Wasn't men that were filling those great sewing rooms, was it? It wasn't. Wasn't at all.

TO SEE THE STARS is a powerful coming-of-age story that follows a young girl from outport Newfoundland as she finds her voice amid the early workers' rights movement in 1900's New York.

A moving tribute to the women of that era, and a great read for #InternationalWomensDay.

A screenshot of the review of All of Us [text in image] All of Us, by award-winning writer and illustrator Manon Gauthier, is a celebration of the cell (the smallest part of all living things), From snow leopards , penguins, and polar bears, to our human families, the cell connects all of us. The simple text in this book is accompanied by quirky paper-collage illustrations. On close inspection, young readers will notice that each illustration has an element of design that highlights this cellular connection. All of Us is a delightfully creative non-fiction book that ends with suggestions for how students can use collage to explore their own creative process. Available in English and French, this book would be of interest to students aged 5 to 8 and accessible to young readers aged 7 and 8
