Paper published! PhD student Man Him Chak led this work in collab with the Meijer group. Photoswitches reversibly control supramolecular polymer evolution for hours after the light is off.

Thanks to all our wonderful collaborators on this one! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

You need one organisation to do the expensive and thankless task of collecting thousands of spectra of pure samples in controlled solvent conditions. No random old bottles of CDCl3, or DMSO that is 50% water etc. would be also great if we could submit FIDs to a database…

As already noted, the problem is there isn’t reliable data for models yet. It would require accurate and reproducible data of the widest variety of samples. Look at reported NMR data at the moment - it’s all over the place.

Not this year I’m afraid and next year I’m not sure yet - but would love to come!!

That would be awesome! Most LEDs, including those that we use, are super broad, and with filters we often have dim light. We have other brighter and narrow LEDs, but these cost several $1000 including the power supply and controller units. But a cheap powered LED could be $5 and work for most apps

Yep, and you can absolutely do this if you have a) long enough thermal half-lives that you can separate without sig switching and b) be able to separate. The key issue is with lifetimes.

Thanks!!

Thanks! Let me know if there is anything that could be improved, or stuff we missed. I hope it be a useful resource

#photoswitches: How should we determine errors on PSS distributions, and the absorption spectrum of the metastable isomer? We have been discussing this for years and have finally written a manuscript, including a python code to fit your data without human bias. chemrxiv.org/doi/full/10....

Truly sad news today. Emma was an inspiring Dean of Science at UNSW and always dedicated to making a real difference in the world, as well as beaming with energy and positive vibes. A pleasure to work with and an inspiring leader in times when they seem so hard to find. She’ll be sadly missed.

Mineral vs chemical sunscreens? Science shows the difference is smaller than you think New analysis shows one in three ‘mineral-only’ sunscreens contain UV-absorbing chemicals.

At UNSW, we’ve been looking into sunscreens. theconversation.com/mineral-vs-c... @jonbeves.bsky.social + Anna Wang. Also thanks to Thilini Ishwara.

If you believe either that Franklin discovered the double helix, and / or Watson and Crick stole her data, ask yourself how you know this. Then take a read of this article.

Screenshot of tweet from the ARC saying they will announce DP26 outcomes on Tuesday 28th Oct, and LP25r1 outcomes on Wednesday 29th.

ARC says Discovery Projects outcomes will be tomorrow (Tuesday). Linkage Projects (2025, round 1) on Wed. Over past ~year, it's often been at about 11am (Canberra).

My bot will pick up the change to RMS & post immediately.

ARC should email outcomes to lead CIs, but might take an 1hr or so for DPs
