Are MPAs in the transition zone between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea effective? We have mapped cumulative effects of multiple stressors in the Skagerrak. Anchored in this, and a statistical model, we have compared pressures within outside the MPAs. Most MPAs are so-called 'paper parks'.

Fantastic & amazing collaboration & research project about modelling & predicting the future of our global floras in a world of Plant invasions!
Almost 10.000 SDMs & range projections😱😍💪
This is a huge coordination success & a lot of work in the last years.
A global call across many synthesis centre on "Interaction of climate and biodiversity"
😍 Thanks for being such an inspiring team!
🚨 New perspective piece - How to face Environmental crises? By aligning actions across roles, ecologists & environmental scientists can do more for a sustainable future, and professional societies can help them!
📖 Read the full paper here ➡️ buff.ly/3d1GZZL
We reviewed 73 professional societies across 42 countries.
Only 18% had codes of ethics or similar documents addressing responsibilities of individual members.
Most focus on advancing science & far fewer articulate responsibilities toward sustainability or society.
The image is from a forest with a dividing road that has two sign pointing to opposite directions and the text "This way?" "That way?". There is a text that reads "We need guidance on how ecologists and environmental scientists can take action, individually and collectively"
Despite decades of research, environmental crises continue to escalate.
So we asked: Are ecologists and environmental scientists (EES) doing enough — and do we have clear guidance for how to act?
❓️How can we environmental scientists & our professional societies be more impactful❓️

Fantastic study on the adaptation of species populations on temperature changes, led by former #sDiv Postdoc Viktoriia Radchuk.
This is part of the #synthesis group @idiv-research.bsky.social www.idiv.de/straitchange & also shows how long it sometimes takes to finish complex studies.
The pleasure is & will be on our side!!!

Carly was part of the #sDiv #synthesis group www.idiv.de/surbio2050 & is now as sabbatical here @ufz.de, one of our main partners.

A big thank you to the @tibsaarhus2026.bsky.social for organising an amazing conference in Aarhus, and to the judges for the poster prize, supported by the @newphyt.bsky.social foundation.
Thanks @tibsaarhus2026.bsky.social @biogeography.bsky.social & team for the fantastic conference #tibs2026 ‼️
Great science, friends & colleagues & food. Well done!
Also always great to see #sDiv @idiv-research.bsky.social alumni😍

It was great to meet so many other Early Career Researchers at our #TIBS2026 mixer last night - both catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
To celebrate all the ECR Biogeographers, we have created a starter pack so you can follow all the exciting work being done:

Absolutely! Esp while they allow the writing for that part also be suppirted by AI.
We here in sDiv, the synthesis centre moved away from it & ask directly for the problem/question & its justification.
We should put more trust in our colleagues & decrease work loads
The German research foundation @dfg.de allows AI assisting its review processes.
Another way of reducing the massive unpaid workload in these processes is to decrease the length of proposal to focus on the most important parts (e.g. 5 (?) pages of state of the art isn't important).
