Finally starting Hope and Wild Panic by @seanennis.bsky.social and I can already tell that @malarkeybooks.bsky.social published another banger (they all are, no matter when you get to them).

A shirtless man with a skull for a face holding in his outstretched arm a human head with a flower in its mouth. The person is standing in a collage of torn papers that look like waves. Text reads:

after you're sick
of the sea

there's this:
more sea

My brother turned the opening poem from HAIR SHIRT into a poster that was one of 50 selected to be displayed in a poster exhibition in Greece.

Strange thing happens, when we don’t post about books for a while we don’t sell many books, so this is a post about books and fingers crossed it will help us sell some!

“George might be dying, but he’ll live with me for a long time.”

Very kind review from one of my favorite fellow @malarkeybooks.bsky.social authors.

(Not that I’m picking favorites. Unless that’s okay)

poem stanza reading

"this loop, there's a dive
waiting there, pure and lore-less,
a gas ball at the beginning of time,
or memory, and inside, the first girl
will be sitting there,
drinking a whiskey,
waiting for you to show up."

#NationalPoetryMonth reads: THUMBSUCKER from Kat Giordano & @malarkeybooks.bsky.social. boy I loved this uncomfortable, gutsy, often-gorgeous collection. an excerpt from "To the Rust Belt, With Love" (esp. for @lookuplookup.bsky.social ):

I seesaw back and forth between
something highly metrical and something free; there isn't any one way to write. But it seems to me we've gotten into a sort of Alexandrian age. Poets of my generation and particularly younger ones have gotten terribly proficient at these forms. They write a very musical, difficult poem with tremendous skill, perhaps there's never been such skill. Yet the writing seems divorced from the culture. It's become too much something specialized that can't handle much experience. It's become a craft, purely a craft, and there must be some breakthrough back into life.

One of the many memorable passages in Robert Lowell's "The Art of Poetry" interview with Frederick Seidel in the spring 1961 issue of The Paris Review.

everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability

I finished this today! What a treat. Need to find a way to finagle this into some kind of blurb, but feel like fans of Sam Lipsyte, and Mike Nagel, and Richard Linklater('s hangout movies, especially) will especially love this!
