I hadn't thought of this. I am interested in the model being able to RW to my vault, which is another reason I was thinking about isolating it.

I didnβt notice. π
I continue to struggle with getting my head around the paradigm shift. My own, albeit novice, use of LLMs and exploration has been a pretty radical adjustment of my own understanding of my own security.

I know there are privacy issues here and issues around LLMs generally but right now am most interested in making sure I'm effectively walling off the MCP server and my obsidian vault from the rest of my machine.
I am thinking about running the MCP server and everything in an isolated VM on my computer. Are any other health law / public health folks doing this sort of work? I'd love to talk about the security issues before moving forward.
I have been exploring LLMs to support my research, particularly in understanding, organizing, and in dialogue with my own research notes all organized in @obsidian.md , I am interested in using a local MCP server & am thinking through the security issues.
Right!? I feel like you could use it as the basis of an entire course on public health
It was so much fun! We laughed, we cried, I would do it again & again. π±.
New manuscripts planned, outlines made, other manuscripts advanced, & academic domination schemed (Benevolent Version)
In the multiverse, there is a Daniel that grew up in Seattle, so I feel connected to this magical city.
I think this moment is highlighting the distinction between administration/managerialism and actual *leadership* in higher ed.
1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.
I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Here's my own rendition of 'The Doom Loop' - which
@james7jackson.bsky.social tipped me off about recently. As Labourn & Dyke write: "Climate change is making geopolitics less stable, which harms climate action. This will worsen climate change, meaning more geopolitical instability, and so on"
πππ I applaud how law nerdy this is while also being cringey dad joke at the same time.
Congratulations!!
TL;DR - We identified six legal and policy challenges for implementing surveillance in the context of climate change:
- Coordination problems
- Differing regulatory goals & authorities
- Jurisdictional issues
- Priority setting
- Getting out of preparedness frameworks
- Taking a long view
Surveillance has been a recurring theme in the @agugeohealth.bsky.social sessions at #agu24. Chandra Ganesh & I have a book chapter on climate change & surveillance from a law / policy perspective. You can get it here π www.zotero.org/jasonasmith #shamelessplug
Today was all about extreme heat; convergence research; and climate and health. My public health law colleagues should explore @agu.org. So many governance and legal issues to be explored and refreshingly the scientists are looking to collaborate. #AGU24
Looking forward to attending my first @agu.org meeting and sessions on public health, heat, adaptation and governance.
