Digital IDs - good idea or no? Seems like a bad idea to me, for reasons of money. Our economy is already in the toilet and the cost of getting together 70 million plastic cards and managing the daily admin of issuing and closing is going to run into zillions. And it seems unlikely to solve illegals.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance called for urgent reform: “Sky-high salaries for senior bureaucrats, many in underachieving trusts, ... are impossible to justify.” It’s time to stop rewarding failure and put patients first. #NHS #RewardsForFailure www.taxpayersalliance.com/taxpayers_al...
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Trust had the worst waiting times for treatment in England—yet 8 senior managers there still received over £100,000 each. Their chief medical director was paid £387,500. Is this value for money? #NHS #RewardsForFailure www.taxpayersalliance.com/taxpayers_al...
University Hospitals Plymouth’s chief exec was paid nearly £400,000 last year—while the trust ranked just 95th out of 136 for A&E waiting times. Taxpayers are footing the bill for failure, not results. #NHS #RewardsForFailure www.taxpayersalliance.com/taxpayers_al...
512 NHS managers paid more than the PM while patients wait longer than ever? The worst-performing trusts still hand out huge salaries—an East Cheshire manager got £367,500, yet only half A&E patients are seen in 4 hours. #NHS #RewardsForFailure www.taxpayersalliance.com/taxpayers_al...
🚨 NEW: 1,694 senior NHS managers received over £100,000 in total pay last year—279 of them took home between £200,000 and £300,000, and 17 pocketed over £300,000. Meanwhile, waiting lists soar and A&E targets are missed. #RewardsForFailure www.taxpayersalliance.com/taxpayers_al...
Assisted Dying - potentially "helping" people (whether they like it or not) from Friday 16 May. Sign Marie Curie's petition to fix end of life care. #AssistedDyingBill #May16Vote campaigns.mariecurie.org.uk/page/163063/...
[RECORD] 518,000 patients faced "trolley waits" of 12+ hours last year - up 25% from previous year. Corridor care being normalized while we debate funding assisted dying? Our priorities are backwards www.libdems.org.uk/press/releas... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
"Cardiac arrests in corridors blocked by trolleys, delaying CPR". Nurses report caring for 40 patients in single corridors without life-saving equipment. This is today's NHS reality www.rcn.org.uk/news-and-eve... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
39,000 patients spent >24hrs in NW England A&Es, some spent FOUR DAYS on corridor trolleys. 66.8% of nurses deliver care in corridors DAILY. Fix this before funding assisted dying! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... www.rcn.org.uk/news-and-eve... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
Better End of Life Report: 1 in 3 people severely affected by pain in their final week. 1 in 2 visited A&E in final months. We're failing these patients. Assisted dying isn't the answer-better care is www.mariecurie.org.uk/research-and... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
SHOCKING: Only 30% of UK areas offer out-of-hours palliative care support. 27% offer NO support at night/weekends. How can we justify spending on assisted dying when basic palliative care is so patchy? csiweb.pos-pal.co.uk/csi-content/... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
CRISIS: 90% of 600,000 deaths yearly in England & Wales need palliative care, many don't receive it. Only 5% die in hospices. Why fund assisted dying when we can't even provide proper end-of-life care? cicelysaundersinternational.org/palliative-c... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst #May16Vote
Hospices fundraise £597m yearly to survive. Sue Ryder gets only 1/3 of needed funding from government. Meanwhile, we plan to spend millions on assisted dying. Fund palliative care FIRST! media.sueryder.org/documents/Pa... | www.carehome.co.uk/advice/do-i-... #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst
MPs vote on the Assisted Dying Bill May 16th. Costs are estimated at £10.9m-£13.6m annually for the Commissioner and panels alone. NHS is already at breaking point. Why divert resources from those fighting to live? #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6814c4...
May 16th: MPs debate the Assisted Dying Bill. Impact assessment shows 4,500+ assisted deaths yearly by Year 10. Before ANY decision, we need a strategy for palliative care & solving corridor care. Contact your MP today! #AssistedDyingBill #PutPatientsFirst www.libdems.org.uk/press/releas...

🚑 NHS outsourced care: The trade-offs
🔸 Pros: Faster hips/knees ops (1-8 weeks vs 20)
🔸 Cons:
→ Older patients face longer waits for complex care
→ NHS loses £730/procedure vs private £1,500+
→ Staff leave for private sector salaries
#UKHealth #AgingBritain
Final Takeaway 📣
8/ Outsourcing drains NHS funds and skills TODAY, while the over-65 population grows 20% by 2037. Without change, who cares for Grandma? 💔
#ProtectNHS #AgingCrisis
💡 The Alternative: Insourcing
7/ NHS hospitals doing weekend ops:
→ 30% more capacity
→ Trains new surgeons
→ Cuts costs by 40% vs outsourcing
So why pay private profits? 🤔
#NHSInsourcing #CommonSense
🏥 Geographic Lottery 🎰
6/ Londoners get 3x more private referrals than NE England. Rural elderly? Stuck with dwindling NHS services.
#HealthInequality #NHSPostcodeLottery
📉 The Financial Black Hole
5/ £2.5bn/year outsourcing = Money NOT spent on:
→ 5,000 geriatric specialists
→ 24/7 NHS operating theatres
→ Rural hospital upgrades
#NHSFunding #TaxpayerMoney
👵 Aging Population Timebomb 💥
4/ Private firms WON’T cover:
→ Multiple chronic conditions (75% of over-75s)
→ Dementia care
→ End-of-life support
Leaving NHS to handle the hardest cases with LESS funding.
#CareForElders #NHSMatters
⚠️ Hidden Cost: Deskilling the NHS
3/ Private firms take easy surgeries. NHS staff lose training opportunities → fewer experts for cancer/heart care.
#WorkforceCrisis #SaveOurNHS
✅ Short-Term Gains
2/ 1M+ extra ops/year via private deals!
But… 40% of these are simple cases (hips/cataracts). Complex care? Still NHS-only.
#NHSUnderPressure #HealthPolicy
🚨 NHS Outsourcing: Quick Fix or Future Crisis? 🏥⚖️
1/ The NHS is paying £2.5 BILLION/year to private firms to cut waits. Short-term win? Yes. Long-term risk? 🚩 #NHSatRisk #HealthcareThread
Systemic Risks: "Four-year timeline1 won't resolve core issues
1. #AssistedDying costs £3,345/case vs £156/day for hospice care
2. 72% of hospices already face 2025 deficits
3. 54% of patients report uncontrolled pain
- MPs: Fix care gaps BEFORE creating new death pathways.
Cost Comparison - Copying the Isle of Man's #AssistedDying scheme would cost UK taxpayers £53M+ /yr. Hospices raise £1bn/year funding themselves, but state-funded suicide services would distort priorities. Health Sec says funding 'comes at expense of other choices'. #NHSFunding"
"50% of UK families report poor end-of-life care10. Instead of fixing this, the bill risks repeating Canada's mistake: $249M palliative cuts vs $97M for assisted dying rollout9. Rural areas already wait 26min for palliative access vs 5min in cities6. #HealthInequality"

Implementing #AssistedDying requires around 200 specialists – panel members, psychiatrists (15% vacancy rate), and social workers. Yet NHS has 100,000+ unfilled posts, including 40,000 nursing vacancies. Can we ethically prioritize death panels over cancer waitlists? #NHSStaffing
