Don’t let the House of Lords get away with it.
This is a critical moment for the #AssistedDyingBill.
A small handful of peers must not be allowed to block one of the most important pieces of legislation ever to have passed through the Commons.

Join our protest at 09:00–12:00, Parliament Square, Westminster, 22 April, and send a clear message to peers: they cannot get away with blocking one of the most important pieces of legislation to pass through the Commons in a generation. #AssistedDyingBill

This is an affront to democracy and an insult to terminally ill people and their families. So many fought to get the #AssistedDyingBill through the Commons—only to be let down by peers who should have been improving it, not obstructing it. humanists.uk/2026/02/02/a...
The behaviour of peers regarding the #AssistedDyingBill has been appalling. The House of Lords DOES NOT have the right to thwart the will of MPs and the public. Yet through time-wasting tactics, that’s exactly what a small handful of peers have done.

The Assisted Dying Bill has stalled — and it proves The Whip Line's point: you can’t rush flawed legislation through Parliament with moral pressure. Scrutiny did its job.

I think you mean the undemocratic filibustering of the #AssistedDyingBill
#TerminallyIllAdultsBill
#Labour
That pregnancy test amendment for the #AssistedDyingBill is an insult in so many ways. Yes, it's part of the nonsensical Lords filibustering, but it's also a sneaky nod to the Christian right wing anti abortion movement. @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social calling it out on @therestpolitics.bsky.social
Ed Davey voted against the #AssistedDyingBill.
But he’s criticised peers for 'undemocratic', filibustering tactics – and is calling on the PM to intervene.
We agree. The behaviour of peers has been appalling. It's further damaged the reputation of the House of Lords.

Meanwhile: Peers run down the clock on the #AssistedDyingBill, and MSPs in Scotland vote against changing the status quo... and this is it... terminally ill people forced to die abroad because UK politicians are failing them. A national tragedy.

The landmark #AssistedDyingBill has been rejected by MSPs following a historic and highly emotional vote at #Holyrood.

Not sure why #ScottishParliament has ceased to represent a courageous #Scotland I'd hoped we might start in 2014. Here I am again, not recognising those who purport to represent "future Scotland" but act as #WeeFrees Scotland is back. Essential citizen autonomy of an #AssistedDyingBill was denied.

This is what we are heading towards in the UK and long COVID didn’t get a mention in parliament! We have over 3 million adults and children in the UK with long covid. #AssistedDyingBill
.
Let's hope MSPs support the Assisted Dying Bill this evening as it is what over 2/3 of people in Scotland want!

Anyone who’s watched a loved one refuse food and water to hasten death knows how unbearably painful that is. You don’t have to choose an assisted death for yourself, but everyone (who meets the criteria) within the #AssistedDyingBill should have the choice to do so.
Apprehensively following news on #AssistedDyingBill tonight. An incredibly pivotal moment will come either way, after what for some will be an incredibly difficult & emotive vote. Will there ever be enough protection against coercion? At what price does choice come? 🤔
Over 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter urging Keir Starmer to stop the House of Lords from using "procedural tactics" to kill the #AssistedDyingBill.
-> 𝟭,𝟮𝟬𝟬+ = The number of amendments submitted by opponents to delay the bill.
.
It's what Scots want - over 2/3 in Scotland want the choice for the terminally ill of legally assisted dying if they wish.

With the #AssistedDyingBill cleared in the House of Commons but essentially blocked by the Lords, Scotland could very well become the first part of the UK to legalise assisted dying – although the vote is currently too close to predict.

Government backing for the #AssistedDyingBill? Not going to happen, says Nick Watt on @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social
Why not? Another example of this government’s failure. It’s popular, costs nothing and would show a focus on ‘delivery’.

The #AssistedDyingBill is at risk of being deliberately talked out in the Lords. Terminally ill people deserve a compassionate choice – and MPs’ votes should be respected. I support #HumanistsUK and the Assisted Dying Coalition. Sign this petition today!
