The couple in the foreground, exchanging rings, are thought to be Charles I, duc’Orléans & Bonne d’Armagnac, who were married in April 1410. Their witnesses are probably Jean de Bourbon and Marie de Berry. After the battle of Agincourt in 1415, Charles d’Orléans was imprisoned in England, where he remained in captivity - with time in the Tower of London - for 24 years. He became an accomplished poet (En la forêt de longue attente); was finally freed and returned to France, after Bonne had died.
