Targeted research generating more datasets means finally recognizing that a ‘one size fits all’ explanation for hillfort chronology, morphology, and use needs to be reconsidered; as does how we define ‘urban’ or ‘proto-urban’. Multiple sites can be used by the same community for different purposes.
