SuperCanucks has been out for 3 weeks now! Hard to believe. Still promoting and getting it out there. My co-editor Mat and I just recently sat down with @markleslie.bsky.social on his podcast Stark Reflections - You can listen to it here: starkreflections.ca/2026/04/10/e...

$4B didn't get shot into space, though? It created jobs here on earth; paid scientists, engineers, material specialists, designers, technicians, construction workers, data analysts, interns, janitors. Science is always worth the investment, because investing in knowledge also invests in *people*.

It was amazing to be in such fantastic company! Really proud of my story, the editors, and the final anthology (which is A+ all through).

Spent the morning copying my CV into yet another janky web portal for a job I probably won't get an interview for. At least this one was up front that AI is used in the screening process so when I don't get it I can be all high and mighty about AI being a bad tool for hiring.

Oh, haha, no, I meant the baby. There’s a lot of women insisting that Francesca has to have a baby to be happy, when the author didn’t intend for that to be her story and only added it, later. It’s thinly-veiled homophobia (or lesbophobia, really; the same women *love* Heated Rivalry…).

What?! I’ve read TONS of fantastic sci-fi in written in the first person. That’s bizarre.

Absolutely insane take.

PS I bet there’s overlap with the “book purists” pissed that Francesca’s season of Bridgerton can’t end with her having a baby because they gender-swapped her love interest (which only happens in an epilogue that was added *after the book came out* to appease angry fans!).

How did we end up with a culture of people bragging about being planet-boilingly bad at their jobs

Like do people genuinely not feel shame any more

BRING BACK SHAME

That’s an idea! I just put a reminder on my calendar to request it in early June.

Oh absolutely! And in full-time university, to boot. I have no idea how I did it. I have far fewer spoons now and I’m doing a fraction of the work.

Free alternative idea for those who don't have a book budget at the moment: I shall be doing my part by borrowing bell hooks' Communion from the library and posting a review on June 16.

The TikTok girlies (gender neutral) are hatching a plan to all buy copies of communion by hooks on Vance's release date. I will be participating.

#SpoonieAuthChat Far back as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a writer.

I think I've been bragging about how good an author I was going to be since Kindergarten.

Didn't think I'd publish my first novel at 19, though! (Kindergarten me was sure it would be earlier!!)

Two Must-Read Feminist Sci-Fi Novels The covers are similar — the stories are not

I read a lot of books. Sometimes I review books I liked a lot. These two were highlights of the first quarter of 2026. Very similar covers, but represent two parallel threads of feminism: the hard work of nurturing new systems & the fight to dismantle broken ones.

"SuperCanucks is an anthology that paints in all the colours, showing us many ways to be a hero. This is a deeply Canadian group of stories by some of our best short fiction writers. I enjoyed it immensely."

I like the red but my husband likes the gold. I enjoy the Canadiana of it but from a design pov, the gold stands out more. I’d almost pair the red leaf with a different colour of tassel. But both are lovely!!
