We have very much enjoyed our Australorps and Easter Eggers, Chad is thinking about barred rocks, but mainly for fly tying feathers.

Ooo! What kind are they?
We welcomed our first lambs a couple days ago, and after some bonding time with mom Karma, they got to come out and meet the rest of the ewe crew! Our other 3 are expecting to lamb any day now, so these babies will soon have lots of friends to play with!

This gal, Lana, is looking nice and wide! I'm hoping for some gorgeous lamb twins out of this first time mom. Cuz that's a heck of a baby bump!

That sense of community can be elusive and it's been something I've really been trying to find since we moved two years ago. It was there today in that barn and at the dining room table for brunch after. Fantastic, food for the soul kind of day.
There is nothing like practicing something 40 times in a row to help build some knowledge and confidence (and muscles) I'm going to be sore tomorrow, and I smelled more like one of the flock than a human, but I met or reconnected with some really wonderful people.
I was able to go help The LayZee Farmer, LLC get the second half of her sheep sheared and vaccinated this morning. I was on handling duty taking and holding the freshly sheared sheep for their CDT vaccines. Out of the 50+ sheep done, I think I wrangled maybe 40 of them.
There are some days that are hard work, and some days that fill your heart with joy, and then the charmed days that are both and you feel purpose and community. Today was one of those.
Went to the coolest little local coffee shop this afternoon, Brewed Gems: Coffee and Crystals, in Foley, MN. Don't let anyone tell you that Pagan/New age/Queer businesses don't exist in rural places. Coffee and treats were excellent, can't wait to go back!
Yeah, we'll see how long that attitude lasts of them absorbing the cost... Cuz otherwise it sounds like they're drinking the Kool-Aid. π
Quick farm check-in time! Silly sheep are about a month out from lambing and looking good, I processed a chicken who was eating the eggs, and made some pretty divine marble rye bread from scratch. The distraction and responsibilities keep me sane. Mostly.

How you dress when it's 10 below and you've gotta do nighttime farm chores and tractor the garbage cans down the quarter mile driveway cuz hubs threw out his back. π₯Άπ Was actually sweating when I came back in.

Cozy barn cats snuggled in the waste wool I've been slowly picking through after fall shearing, homemade rustic bread, and garden planning like it's the olden days with graph paper. Winter doesn't suck, it's about rest, recharging, and dreaming.

We're coming up on 2 years in this house and I have finally gotten my art area more unpacked and organized to a point I can use it. Still have more to go, but it feels so good to have MY space back.

Got a nice little dusting of snow yesterday, which doesn't phase the Icelandic sheep one bit. They have such lovely warm wool blankets to wear. The chickens on the other hand only left the coop to see if I had any treats.

I bet she's thrilled with all the snow π₯°
What the hell, let's try a new social media. I have a small hobby farm in rural Minnesota with 5 sheep, 30 chickens, and 3 barn cats. In the house is me, my husband, our threenager Bear, and senior chaos fluff husky, Sorscha.
